The Batch Plant Operator performs a combination of duties involving general plant maintenance and operation of mobile equipment. This includes properly loading Ready Mix trucks and interacting with Ready Mix drivers and plant personnel. Compensation $32.84-$41.05 per hour | DOE Responsibilities Loads ready mix trucks with concrete and guides drivers through the plant Batch quality concrete within specifications, bringing any significant variances in the batching to the attention of the Plant Superintendent Completes daily service requirements of the plant; helps inspect plant for preventative maintenance issues Troubleshoots and resolves maintenance problems to ensure efficient operations Operates front end loaders and forklifts Performs general maintenance of water pumps, conveyor belts and other plant equipment Maintains inventory of raw materials, parts and tools Monitors KPIs for dispatch Effectively communicates with customers and other departments of the company Stays well-informed on Quality Control demands on concrete Education High school diploma/GED Requirements/Qualifications Experience with maintenance, operations, loaders and forklifts Must provide basic tools such as wrenches, hammers, welding hood and gloves Experience in metal cutting and fabrication, and ability to perform general maintenance on pumps and plant equipment Knowledgeable in the operation and equipment used of a ready-mix plant Versed in Batch Panel software Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite Knowledgeable in MSHA and OSHA rules and regulations Knowledge of pH, TSS, TDS and Turbidity limits to meet Department of Ecology standard Physical requirements: able to lift/move up to 100 lbs., climb up to 24 feet, walk, bend and crouch Able to work in various extreme weather conditions May be required to work varying start/stop times and extended hours Conditions of Employment Successful candidate must submit to post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screen, and background check. The Plant Operator may float from plant to plant if not assigned to a specific location. Essential Functions: Assume all responsibilities of the Yard Operator in their absence. Oversee all plant operations and coordinate and monitor daily workload throughout the plant, in addition to monitoring plant cleanliness. Oversee all drivers, operators, and other personnel at the plant. Respond in a timely manner to all employee concerns and/or complaints and escalate concerns and disciplinary action to the Area Production Manager as necessary. Coordinate scheduling with Dispatch and monitor driver activity to ensure customer needs are being met in an efficient manner. Respond to all complaints and concerns in a timely manner. Maintain adequate levels of all supplies and products (i.e., fuel, cement, admixtures, fiber mesh, etc.) and maintain accurate and current reports as required. Ensure that the concrete plant and related equipment are operating properly at all times by inspecting the plant for greasing, checking oil fluid levels, adding grease and oil as required, and keeping plant and equipment clean and free of excess material. Maintain proper levels of aggregates and admixtures, including keeping the hoppers full of aggregates. Notify the Area Production Manager of impending shortages in a timely manner. Ensure compliance with company safety regulations and all company environmental regulations and notify personnel immediately of any potential problems. Take samples and perform tests as necessary and complete required documentation/reports. Inform Technical Services of any quality problems that need resolving. Keep equipment and plant site clean at all times by washing the outside of the plant and equipment whenever necessary, maintaining plant grounding, picking up trash and other items from grounds, and making sure that all equipment is in its proper place. Operate vehicles and equipment in a safe manner. Perform all pre and post-trip inspections and complete daily inspection reports. Follow all environmental regulations and clean up any excess material that could cause environmental problems. What You'll Do: Promote Safety. Take an active role in prioritizing safety throughout the operation for yourself and others at all times in accordance with MSHA and Vulcan standards. Plant Operation. Operate plant equipment to regulate flow of materials to and from conveyors, chutes, pumps, and storage bins. Control stockpile inventory of materials. Inspect Equipment, Structures, and Material. Perform daily inspections and maintenance of the plant equipment and document items in need of repair or service. Monitor Processes and Materials. Monitor and review plant equipment systems to ensure continuous flow of materials and maintain certified products. Remove clogged materials when applicable. Document and Record Information. Assist plant management with record keeping and daily production schedules for submitting reports on production and maintenance. Read and write delivery tickets to determine the mix design called for each load. Issue delivery tickets to customers. Repair and Maintain Plant Equipment. Assist with maintenance activities, including greasing, lubricating, and other minor repairs throughout the plant when necessary. Additional Responsibilities. Other duties as assigned. Skills You'll Need: Experience. Previous experience in the aggregate or construction industry is preferred. Knowledge of Best Practices. A basic knowledge of the concrete, cement, or construction industry is preferred. Flexibility. Must be able to work overtime and extended hours depending on customer and company demands. Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noises. Mechanical Skills.
