Part-Time faculty are professionals with the responsibility of providing a quality learning experience for Johnston Community College students on a semester basis. Part-Time faculty report to a department chair and/or director and perform instruction-related duties and responsibilities in a timely manner and in accordance with the mission, policies and procedures of the college. The categories listed below constitute the expectations for the part-time faculty member. These responsibilities will be assessed utilizing student evaluations and classroom observations by the supervisor. This position requires on campus instruction.
Knowledge & Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Provide instruction in assigned class(es) in coordination with your Department Chair and/or Associate Vice President and established course model syllabus/syllabi. Provide a high quality learning and teaching environment for students in accordance with the educational objectives of the college.
* Teach assigned classes
* Create an effective learning environment
* Present instruction based on the student learning outcomes and performance levels of the course
* Maintain accurate attendance and scholastic records of students
* Use course text, outlines, syllabi and other curriculum materials in accordance with college and departmental guidelines
* Assist with maintaining a classroom environment emphasizing safety, good housekeeping, and equipment security
* Participate in communications with the college and department and meet deadlines as required
* Submit required reports
* Participate in the college's assessment process, if required
* Fulfill all contract provisions
* Maintain a high level of professionalism as a representative of the college
* Ability to demonstrate expertise in areas expected to teach
* Ability to plan, organize, and deploy quality college level instruction
* Ability to communicate effectively with adult learners and to maintain good relationships with staff and students.

Minimum & Preferred Qualifications

Education Minimum: Master's degree required in Chemistry or Master's degree with 18 graduate hours in Chemistry related course work.

Experience Minimum: One (1) year teaching experience.
Experience Preferred: Two (2) to three years of teaching experience in a post-secondary environment, preferably at a community college.

* Provide instruction which demonstrates knowledge of the subject matter and shows evidence of careful planning.
* Participate in the development and revision of classroom materials - syllabi, tests, quizzes and handouts.
* Conduct classes in accordance with local and state curriculum guidelines.

* Participate in registration and orientation for program courses.

PT IT/Cybersecurity Intern *INTERNAL ONLY*
Johnston Community College job in Smithfield, NC
This part time temporary position is made possible under an NSF federal grant which is intended to provide real world experience to matriculated students of the IT/Cybersecurity curriculum at JCC. The student intern will work under the direction of faculty and staff members to apply knowledge already learned, gain valuable practical experience, and learn new skills while supporting JCC's mission. This experience will be a valuable asset when applying to post-graduate or other intern positions. The student will work approximately 10 hours per week and the schedule will be variable based on project needs and priorities of the BILT and/or IT departments.
