Jordan Industries International company history timeline

1988

Jordan Industries, Inc. (JII) was founded in 1988 and was inextricably bound to The Jordan Company, not only by name but by the men running both businesses.

By 1988, TJC owned controlling interests in 30 companies.

1989

One of the largest acquisitions TJC completed during its first decade was American Safety Razor Company, which was bought for $140 million in cash in 1989.

1991

In 1991, TJC became involved in the candy industry, acquiring Fannie May Candy Shops Inc. and its manufacturing branch, Archibald candy.

1994

TJC entered the fast food business in 1994, forming National Restaurant Enterprises Inc. to become a Burger King franchisee.

1995

1995: Company begins healthcare unit with purchase of Duro-Med Industries.

1996

Next came two more Georgia-based healthcare products companies: GAM Industries Inc. (a manufacturer of hot and cold compresses) and TheraBeads (creator and manufacturer of microwaveable heat therapy items) in 1996.

1997

With the dawn of 1997 came another healthcare buy, Cho-Pat, Inc., a trademarked designer and manufacturer of orthopedic devices sold mostly to the sports-medicine market.

1999

1999: Jordan buys 20 companies in a matter of months; revenues top $776 million.

2000

Jordan Industries in 2000 was still researching and seeking out private companies for possible acquisition.

2000: Company breaks with tradition and sells telecommunications division to Emerson Electronics.

2002

2004

Also in 2004, TJC formed TTS, LLC to acquire Tolin Mechanical Systems Company, a $50 million deal funded by The Resolute Fund.

2005

Following the Sharm-al-Sheik Summit in Egypt on 8 February 2005, both countries announced plans to return ambassadors to the country.

On November 9, 2005, Jordan experienced three simultaneous bombings at hotels in Amman.
