Essential Job Functions:
Craft compelling content-articles, headlines, and social media posts-that enhance public understanding of the USGS Landsat Program and its science at EROS.
Develop and execute story ideas, including conducting interviews and producing engaging bi-weekly podcasts with EROS scientists, USGS staff, and other subject-matter experts.
Collaborate across teams, working closely with subject matter experts, leadership, and team members to create maximum reach and impact.
Provide peer review and editorial support for EROS authors and teammates to ensure clarity, accuracy, and quality every time.
Foster strong relationships with EROS Center staff to identify story opportunities and support communication goals.
Contribute to special projects, including the development of learning materials and special initiatives.
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Mass Communications, Journalism, Remote Sensing, Geography, or a closely related field.
Minimum of 5 years of recent, relevant professional experience in journalism, science communication, or a related field.

Verify and edit newspaper copy prior to composition.

Participate in cross-departmental meetings to align grant activities with operational and strategic priorities.
Support organizational strategic planning, funding diversification, forecasting, and sustainability efforts.
Monitor trends in Tribal health, federal policy, and funding opportunities relevant to 638 facilities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong grant writing, editing, and analytical skills with the ability to translate technical, clinical, and community information into persuasive narratives.
Knowledge of healthcare and public health funding sources, including IHS, HRSA, SAMHSA, CDC, NIH, DOJ, USDA, and state agencies.
Working knowledge of federal grant compliance, 638 contracting, and Tribal self-governance principles.
Ability to interpret funding announcements, regulations, and reporting requirements.
Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with sensitivity to Tribal culture, values, and confidentiality.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and grant submission systems (e.g., Grants.gov, HRSA EHBs, eRA Commons, SAMHSA portals).
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in English, Public Administration, Health Administration, Public Health, Business, or a related field required (Master's degree preferred).
Minimum of three (3) years of grant writing or grants management experience, preferably in healthcare, public health, Tribal, nonprofit, or public sector settings.
Demonstrated success securing federal and/or foundation grant funding.
Experience working with federally funded programs and reporting requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with Tribal governments or Tribal health organizations.
Familiarity with Indian Health Service funding and 638 compact operations.
Knowledge of community health assessments, program evaluation, and performance measurement.
Experience collaborating with clinical and behavioral health programs.
