Receives work direction and review from Crew Supervisor, Foreman, Dispatcher, District Manager, or other line supervisors. Construct, install, maintain and repair all transmission and distribution electrical systems and associated equipment, both overhead and underground, for the reliable and safe transmission and distribution of electrical service to the customer. Operate heavy equipment such as line truck, backhoe, forklift, trencher, overhead cranes, and wire pulling equipment in the building of new lines or distribution systems and/or maintaining existing electric systems or services. Work with blasting and explosive materials and devices. Climb poles to construct, repair, or maintain electric line equipment or string, splice, and sag wire on live or dead circuits. Troubleshoot, repair, and restore electric service due to line faults, isolated customer outages, and other emergency outages caused by storms, floods, and accidents. Train and instruct apprentices in all phases of line work, proper use of tools and operating and maintaining equipment in accordance with safety rules, electrical code, and regulations. Perform switching and other mechanical duties in substations as required. Install and maintain street light systems. Patrol and inspect substations, transmission and distribution lines and equipment, and make a report of findings. Test electrical load with special test equipment on primary and secondary circuits and make corrections as necessary to maintain proper voltages. Make a complete record of mileage reports, trouble orders and work performed; time sheets, material reports, line patrol reports and others as required.
