The Operating Switchgear Electricians maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all electrical fixtures and systems. Position Summary We are seeking a skilled and dependable Commercial Electrician - Service Technician to join our electrical team. This role is responsible for the installation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of commercial electrical systems. Key Responsibilities Perform electrical service tasks with a focus on safety, quality, and efficiency. Execute electrical wiring plans for lighting systems, fire alarms, intercoms, services, and other commercial applications. Install commercial electrical components, including safety and distribution systems such as switches, breakers, and panels. Inspect and maintain systems to prevent breakdowns; replace old wiring and clean circuits as needed. Troubleshoot malfunctions and repair or replace faulty units. Use work order systems to track hours, materials, and detailed service notes. Maintain tools, equipment, and company-assigned vehicles in excellent working condition. Maintain a professional and positive working relationship with team members, customers, and vendors. Travel locally to job sites as required; vehicle and gas card provided. Requirements High school diploma or GED; vocational training or completion of a certified electrician apprenticeship preferred. Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial or industrial electrical systems. Strong knowledge of electrical code and OSHA regulations. Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documents. Proficient in the use of hand and power tools (e.g., strippers, voltmeters, drills, conduit benders). Medium Work -- The U.S. Department of Labor defines Medium work as exerting 20 - 50 pounds of force occasionally (Occasionally: activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time), and / or 10 - 25 pounds of force frequently (Frequently: activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time), and / or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1 Travels to work area. Dons the appropriate personal protective equipment, descends in the elevator, and walks to the jeep approximately 300 yards. Wears hardhat with lamp attached while underground, weight is 4 pounds. Wears belt with rescuer, lamp battery, and hand tools (such as volt meter, amp meter, screw driver, channel locks, wire strippers, crimpers, and needle nose pliers) weight approximately 20 pounds. May travel 1 hour to 4 hours by jeep per shift. While calibrating carbon monoxide monitors and methane monitors may walk more than 3 hours / shift, or up to 5 miles. 2 Sets up power for sections and performs lockout for load center moves or problems. At a time when the load center is moved or there is a problem on a section, the Electrician will pull the plug for the load center and lockout the power. When the load center is relocated or the section problem corrected, the Electrician is responsible to re-establish power to the area. The Electrician is responsible for checking vacuum breakers and installing section block lights. 3 Calibrates and repairs carbon monoxide monitors and methane monitors. Carbon monoxide monitors are located every 1,000 feet along the belt line. The Electrician is responsible for inspecting, calibrating using a calibration kit and gas tank and repairing these monitors monthly. The Electrician will perform weekly maintenance by viewing, performing calibrations and hanging signage (if necessary). PHYSICAL DEMANDS: STANDING: Stands occasionally while performing various essential functions, on uneven ground. Ground surface may include gravel, debris from roof, mud and water. WALKING: Walks frequently when performing various essential functions. Walks on uneven surfaces as in description under Standing. May walk 1 - 5 miles per shift. May walk > 3 hours / shift when performing various essential functions. SITTING: May sit for 1 - 4 hours in jeep or motor. Sits while traveling to various areas in the underground mine. LIFTING: Lifts gas cylinders, electrical wires, hand tools, block lights, signage and monitors. Frequently lifts items weighing up to 10 pounds. Occasionally lifts equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Lifting of materials weighing greater than 50 pounds is required, but assistance is available from other Electricians. CARRYING: Carries gas cylinders, electrical wires, hand tools, block lights, signage and monitors. Frequently carries items weighing up to 10 pounds. PUSHING / PULLING: Occasionally pushing and pulling of wires, levers, mop for rock dusting, to set lights during travel, and levers of jeep. BENDING / TWISTING: Occasionally to visualize work area and set lights during travel. REACHING OVERHEAD: Occasional overhead reaching to hang signage, check electrical wires, and rockdust ribs. REACHING AT OR BELOW SHOULDER LEVEL: Occasionally to operate levers of jeep, set lights during travel, and calibrating monitors. POWER GRIP: Frequent use of power grip to operate levers of jeep, set lights during travel, handle rockdust and block lights, calibrating monitors, and performing lockouts. BIMANUAL DEXTERITY: Frequent use of both upper extremities to operate jeep, handle rockdust and block lights, calibrating monitors, and performing lockouts. SKILL OR SPECIALIZATION REQUIRED: The Electrician is required to have low voltage and high voltage card for both surface and underground. The Electrician must pass a mine electrical test. REQUIRED WORK SCHEDULE: The Electrician minimally works 11 of 14 days, 8 - 9 hours / day. There is usually one Electrician working per shift. PSYCHOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS: The majority of the time the Electrician works independently. The Electrician works with a co-worker when heavy or overhead lifting required as when installing block lights. PHYSIOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS: The Electrician may walk for more than 3 hours out of a day when calibrating monitors approximately 5 days / month. ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS: Must wear personal protective equipment to include: hard hat, safety glasses, metatarsal boots, ear muffs (hearing protection), and respirator. Must also wear a battery operated cap lamp. In case of an emergency will don a PWSCSR (Person Wearable Self-Contained Self Rescuer) to be worn during walk to air shaft and out of the mine. As required by law, the Electrician must walk from the section to the main escapeway twice per year. This distance ranges from 2,000 to 12,000 feet. The Electrician works underground at a depth of 400 - 800 feet. Temperatures vary. When working near the face the temperature is fairly constant approximately 55o to 60o. While working away from the face, the Electrician would encounter temperatures that would vary depending on above-ground conditions. Near the face and on the beltline there may be wet conditions. COGNITIVE SKILLS REQUIRED: The Electrician must possess adequate vision, hearing and speech to operate equipment in low light and to safely communicate with co-workers around moving machinery.
