The heaviest physical demands are required during the moving and handling of 55-gallon drums, capacitor cans, recloser control boxes, bushings, and nitrogen tanks. These activities require handling of up to 25-pounds on a frequent basis, 50-100 pounds on an occasional basis. Heavier tasks may require the assistance of (2) or more co-workers. The work schedule is five (5) eight (8) hour days Monday through Friday. Candidate must demonstrate safe working practices, can climb and be able to work from heights and in confined and enclosed spaces. Candidates are required to make themselves available at their reporting base within approximately one hour during periods of trouble call assignments. Performs work in connection with the installation, operation, and maintenance of electrical equipment in substations, power stations, and on customer installations within an assigned area. Fully Qualified Electrician with CDL and Hazmat endorsement or the ability to obtain both. Individual will be expected to be available for routine overtime and emergency work. The Doris Duke Theatre Electrician reports to the Doris Duke Theatre Production Manager (DDT PM) and works closely and collaboratively with the other members of the Doris Duke Theatre Production Team to support all activity in the theater and its support spaces. With the guidance and management of the Lighting Supervisor and DDT PM the DDT Electrician leads the installation, operation, and maintenance of the DDT lighting system. During the pre-season they also participate in the final planning and preparation for the DDT's programming which includes five visiting companies and the building's grand opening celebration. During the festival the DDT Electrician supports the visiting company's technical staff by working with the Lighting Supervisor to prepare and implement any necessary additions or alterations to the system. They are the primary lighting point of contact for the visiting company's lighting representative, and will lead a team of interns, season staff, and overhire crew in changeovers, notes calls, and focuses. They also assist the DDT PM and Lighting Supervisor with the organization and maintenance of the DDT's lighting infrastructure, storage areas, and equipment. RESPONSIBILITIES Maintain a safe, healthy, and accessible work environment at all times. Actively participate in the opening and closing of all of the Festival's performance spaces, studios, exhibition spaces, and temporary tents. Actively participate in all assigned work calls. Participate in all DDT technical rehearsals and performances as a member of the DDT run crew. Assist the DDT PM and Lighting Supervisor in communication with visiting companies to ensure the details of their lighting needs are clear and accurate. Participate in the creation of detailed and comprehensive paperwork including labor plans, changeover narratives, and production schedules. Under the guidance of the DDT PM and Lighting Supervisor lead the installation and operations of the DDT lighting system with the support of interns, seasonal staff, and overhire crew. Act as the primary lighting point of contact for all DDT visiting companies during their time on campus. Support the DDT Light Board Operator by offering constructive guidance and by acting as a collaborative co-worker. Ensure that the DDT lighting system is prepared and safe for all activity by leading daily and show specific checks, maintenance, and set-up. Assist the Lighting Supervisor and Festival Electrician in making improvements to The Pillow's lighting infrastructure, support areas, storage rooms and equipment. Remain in constant communication with the DDT PM and Lighting Supervisor to ensure proper and necessary support for the visiting companies. Maintain clean and orderly lighting workspaces, backstage equipment, and storage areas in the DDT. Participate in the training of Production Interns by offering constructive guidance and by acting as a role model and supportive co-worker. Support and assist with the installation and operation of the Season Opening Gala and special events as needed. Provide support to Jacob's Pillow Media Team in documenting performances, talks, and events. Support the installation of work into The Pillow's exhibition spaces. Support the activation of Weather Plans for HJL and other events and activities. Attend departmental, production, and all-staff meetings. Under the general direction of the DoTP, assist with coordination of emergency response for staff and patrons in the event of an emergency or extreme weather Complete Adult/Child CPR, First Aid, and Cultural Competence Training (provided to all seasonal staff during the pre-season) Assist other departments, including non-production departments, as needed. Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 2-3 years of related experience as an electrician for live performance. Strong knowledge and the ability to lead others on theatrical lighting systems and standing operating procedures. Knowledge of production-related health and safety best practices and concerns and ability to identify and correct potential hazards. Proficiency with Google App suite as well as Vectorworks, Lightwright, and other industry standard lighting applications. Knowledge of DMX, Ethernet, and wireless theatrical networks PREFERRED QUALIFICATION Knowledge and experience working in dance production. Experience working in a performing arts educational environment. Experience with stage operations, wardrobe, audio or video systems, equipment, software and standard operating procedures. Experience with moving light programming. Valid driver's license. Driving trucks and cargo vans in urban and rural areas. Experience with advanced production technology such as augmented reality, virtual reality, or robotics. Experience working outdoors or in non-conventional performance venues or productions.
