Department Information
This position is considered Essential Personnel and may be required to work overtime on both scheduled and non-scheduled days. Position will require working emergency call-back as needed to ensure proper campus operations.
Job Summary
Under the supervision of Management in the Operations and Maintenance Department, this electrical position is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and installation of facility electrical systems components (0 to 600 volts AC/DC) up to and including secondary distribution panels, fire alarm systems, lighting, communication, and networking systems. Relies on instructions and work orders to perform the functions of the job.

Repairing - 65
Troubleshoot, interpret blueprints, understanding of the NEC. Replace defective parts in electrical systems, appliances, network applications, security systems, communication, and life safety systems. Repair receptacles, switches, lighting, and various types of electrical systems throughout campus facilities. Using the standard practices of the trade, such as hand tools, voltage meters/tester, power tools, ladders, man lifts, scaffolding, lifting heavy items, working from heights and various conditions.
Installing - 10
Installation of power, receptacles, switches, lighting, and various types of electrical systems throughout campus facilities. Installs network cabling, terminates, and tests. Installs new life safety and security components to integrate with existing systems. Provides cabling and electrical power in temporary applications for university functions.
Maintenance - 15
Maintains various types of electrical systems in all applications. Maintains network and communications cabling and can terminate and test installed systems. Maintains life safety and security components. Maintains temporary power applications and equipment for university functions.

ABILITIES

Note: This is a position covered by a collective bargaining agreement between Georgia Power and IBEW Local 84 and is governed by this agreement. Union membership is optional. The starting salary for a Lineman is $49.55 (non-negotiable and level of experience does not apply) and this pay is governed by this agreement which includes an increase every six months assuming satisfactory performance, until you max out in your job classification and a negotiated general increase every July. Experience as a Journeyman Lineman with a minimum of 5 years' experience in the electric utility industry and 3 years of Journeyman Lineman experience working with voltages above 600 volts.
Overhead distribution experience (up to 25Kv) required.

Previous experience working on the Georgia Power system highly preferred.
Leadership experience preferred.
Must demonstrate skills, knowledge, and ability by successfully completing the company's pre-employment New Journeyman Evaluation will be required.
Familiar with work involving energized conductors required.
Construction and maintenance line work is desirable.
Familiar with heavy equipment directly related to line work skill sets.
