Routinely maintains and inspects the adequacy of electrical equipment in all city facilities, interior and exterior, to ensure compliance with applicable codes and safety regulations; advises supervisor of any unsafe or non-compliant conditions. Guides and/or instructs department personnel to perform various routine repair tasks such as heating solder, cleaning lead sleeves, and obtaining tools required to perform the task at hand; reviews and tests their work for conformance to instructions, proper connection, and operating efficiency. Develops technical specifications for the maintenance or installation of electrical systems. Designs and permits new electrical construction or renovations; installs and/or oversees the installation of all conduits, wiring, and panels as required for such projects. Designs and implements energy management systems to maximize efficiency of city electricity use; installs and maintains temporary electrical systems for special events; remains on-site for special events to monitor electrical systems. Installs computer network, data communications, and telephone lines. Safely and carefully uses equipment and power, hand, and diagnostic tools required to complete assigned tasks; maintains and repairs assigned equipment and tools. Inspects the work of external contractors to ensure compliance with technical specifications; prepares cost estimates and schedules for assigned projects. Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits a variety of reports and documents such as permits, blueprints, diagrams, mechanical drawings, purchase requisitions, bid specifications, project records, daily log, and correspondence.
