Overview:
The Ironworker is responsible for unloading, positioning, aligning, and bolting or welding structural steel components on commercial and industrial construction projects. This role plays a foundational part in ensuring Sure Steel's structures are built to spec, on time, and with the highest safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Steel Erection & Alignment:
Raise, place, and connect girders, columns, and other structural steel members.
Use tag lines, spud wrenches, sleever bars, and other tools to align and bolt steel components.
Rigging and Crane Signaling:
Assist with rigging activities, ensuring safe lifting and placement of steel using cranes.
Serve as a certified signalperson when needed.
Welding and Cutting:
Perform tack welding, cutting, and grinding of metal as needed per job scope and qualifications.
Ensure welds meet quality and structural standards.
Safety and Fall Protection:
Follow all Sure Steel and OSHA safety procedures and fall protection protocols.
Actively participate in daily safety meetings and jobsite hazard assessments.
Blueprint Reading:
Read and interpret erection drawings, bolt-up plans, and field work orders.
Understand steel member sizes, connection types, and sequencing.
Team Collaboration:
Coordinate with foremen, crane operators, and fellow crew members for safe, synchronized erection activities.
Communicate issues or needs effectively and in a timely manner.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
2+ years of structural steel erection experience.
Strong understanding of rigging, crane signaling, and steel connections.
Comfortable working at heights, on ladders, and on aerial lifts.
Familiarity with welding (certification preferred).
OSHA 10 required; OSHA 30 preferred.
Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
