This position safely and efficiently maintains BEPC electric power transmission lines that serve our members, participants, and customers. The incumbent maintains rights-of-way and other Cooperative assets and assist other crafts as necessary. **ESSENTIAL DUTIES** + Assist in the maintenance of transmission facilities, including both wood and steel structures using live line maintenance with Bare hand / Hot Stick procedures. This includes climbing steel and wood structures, conducting aerial and ground patrol of assigned transmission lines, tightening hardware, checking insulator strings, and replacing fatigued or broken hardware. + Install and maintain conductors under both energized and de-energized conditions. Read blueprints and diagrams in order to assemble and erect wood and steel structures. + Patrol rights-of-way and maintain these areas by fixing fences and gates and restoring washed out areas. + Maintain shop locations to ensure a clean, safe working environment and perform minor maintenance on vehicle equipment. + Perform "groundwork" to assist other linemen in the maintenance of lines and structures. + Perform other duties as assigned. **MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS** + A High school diploma or equivalent (GED or HSED) and either 4 years of experience with an accredited lineman apprenticeship program and obtained a Journeyman Lineman rating or 4 years of related military training/experience. + May be required to have a National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operator (NCCO) designation, or willingness to obtain certification within 1 year from date of hire. + A valid driver's license in the state of residence. + Must have a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brakes and no CDL restrictions other than a medical variance (V). If the incumbent does not have a CDL, after six months in the position, the incumbent will be required to complete CDL theory, obtain a permit, complete Behind the Wheel, and obtain a passing grade on the CDL test by the end of the first year of employment. The Signal Apprentice is an apprenticeship for the positions of Signalman, Signal Maintainer and/or Shop Signalman. This is a full-time (40hrs/wk) position that is subject to on-call (24/7), overtime, nights, alternating shifts, weekends, and holidays. Shifts may vary (5 - 8/hr days followed by 2 days off; 4 - 10/hr days followed by 3 days off; 8 - 10/hr days followed by 6 days off). Travel is required up to 90% outside of the headquarter location on and off the seniority district. Travel may also be required to (and remain at) job sites for extended periods, sometimes for days or weeks at a time, in the designated seniority region. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Delivers serviced signs and equipment Drives YESCO sign and equipment service vehicles to service customer locations Restocks and maintains parts and inventory of YESCO sign and equipment service vehicle Safely operates lift equipment to perform sign service assessment and repair Installs new or modified equipment at customer's facility to ensure full functionality Reviews service reports, work orders, and documentation Inspects malfunctioning or damaged product to assist in determining nature and scope of problem Analyzes review and inspection findings to determine source of problem, and recommends repair, replacement, or other corrective action Provides or coordinates with sales to provide service customers with service pricing quotes Troubleshoots and repairs sign equipment and structures Performs electrical troubleshooting and repair to ensure functionality of electrical signs and lights Prepares and uses materials consistent with specifications of job service order Operates metal cutting equipment to accurately cut materials to service specifications Operates welding equipment to weld sign parts together Implements and maintains quality control and safety during service Sands, polishes, and cleans materials to be used for sign service Layout materials to be used for sign service Glues sign parts together Bends and shapes sign parts according to service specifications Touches up paint and performs detail of signs Performs preventative maintenance and minor repairs to service department equipment and vehicle Provides a communication link between the customer and the company to help ensure that effective service is provided to the customer Completes work order and service documentation to assist with calculation of work hours and materials costs Trains new service employees and apprentices Performs duties to ensure department meets expectations and deadlines MARGINAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Responds to emergency service calls Practices safety while performing as part of the service rappel team Keeps work area organized, clean and free from debris to maintain a safe working environment Performs other functions as necessary or as assigned NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS Interacts daily with employees and supervisors at the YESCO facilities to discuss service projects Interacts daily with YESCO customers at their location to discuss service projects TRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); eight or more years of demonstrated experience in electrical sign service; four or more years of demonstrated experience in power tool operation, welding, electrical, or related areas and completion of the YESCO or other electrical sign service apprenticeship program; or any combination of education, experience, and training which provides the following knowledge, skills and abilities: Ability to read, interpret, and apply specification documents, government coding document information, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals Ability to apply geometric and algebraic mathematical calculations Ability to move, lift, and carry materials, equipment, parts, and completed projects Ability to communicate effectively Valid CDL Driver's License PHYSICAL/SENSORY DEMANDS: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
