Union pay step: 9.2 Journey rate: $55.94 Overall Purpose Under general supervision, plans and performs duties in a safe and efficient manner, associated with the construction, maintenance, operations, removal and inspection on the transmission and distribution system (energized or de-energized) and associated equipment. This includes overhead and underground. Job Responsibilities Installs, removes, replaces and maintains poles, cross arms, conductors, electrical cables, line hardware, insulators or any other plant equipment using Hot Stick or other approved equipment and methods. Installs, removes and replaces transformers and associated devices and equipment using Hot Stick methods or other approved equipment and methods. Installs, removes and maintains energized transmission and distribution conductors and accessories on poles and towers using Hot Stick or other approved equipment and methods. Connects and disconnects energized, conductor taps using Hot Stick or other approved equipment and methods. Performs the necessary switching operations as directed, executes clearances and tags switches, potheads and similar devices. Installs, removes, repairs, and maintains service lines to customers, including the installation and removal of meters. Installs, removes and maintains electrical cables in the underground system. This includes splicing aerial cable and pothead installation other than lead covered cable. Installs, removes, transfers and replaces communication cable system. Assists in making load checks on transformers and distribution circuits. Installs, removes, repairs and maintains street lighting circuits, transformers, fixtures and lamps and performs group street light replacement. Trims trees, paints, installs cement, performs minor maintenance/repairs and does similar work. Handles trouble and emergency calls, locating and isolating faults in transmission and distribution circuits, transformers and other equipment and makes necessary repairs Inspects, cleans, repairs, and maintains transformers, insulators, switches, lines, cables, potheads, vaults, poles, structures, and similar equipment. Performs necessary replacement work and reports major maintenance requirements. Drives, operates, and utilizes various vehicles including aerial lifts, digger-derricks, tractors, trenching equipment, cranes, conductor tensioning and stringing equipment, air compressors, earth boring machines, winch machines, and other similar vehicles used in the performance of work associated with overhead and underground transmission and distribution systems. Performs all required daily maintenance and operating checks on the equipment and prepares required associated reports. Performs necessary rigging for handling cable reels and for raising and lowering of transformers mid other equipment utilized in overhead and underground work. Assists in loading unloading transporting and handling of this equipment and materials. Ensures that all material removed from service is returned to the division for proper disposition. Utilizing optimal crew size, performs all work in accordance with applicable safety procedures, being particularly watchful of the safety of other employees. At times, directs the work of equal or lesser grade employees. Prepares daily work reports associated with work activities. Responsible for the care and use of assigned vehicles, tools (Hot Stick and other), material and equipment. Responsible for performing assigned duties in a safe and responsible manner so that employees and the public are safeguarded at all times. Performs other work related to the above as required or assigned. Education / Experience Requirements High School Diploma or equivalent required Must pass the company administered standardized aptitude test (CAST) Must have satisfactorily completed the validated training program for Utility Worker (average estimated time three years). Must have worked for one full year as a fully qualified Utility Worker Must have previously completed and must satisfactorily complete one year of work on conductors or equipment energized above 750 volts under the close supervision of a Supervisor, Senior Hot Stick Lineworker or Unrestricted Hot Stick Lineworker. Thorough knowledge of safety regulations and practices. Ability to interpret and work from operating maps and prints. Tact and good judgment in dealing with customers and the public. Demonstrated knowledge of equipment used and of the most efficient operating methods. Must qualify on appropriate equipment. Obtains and maintains commercial driver's license (CDL) and required endorsements associated with the job requirements. Position Summary We are seeking a safety-first, analytical, and experienced Lead Electrician to join our team. You will be responsible for overseeing and performing a variety of electrical tasks, from troubleshooting and repairs to new installations across our diverse portfolio of commercial and industrial properties. The ideal candidate has extensive knowledge of electrical systems, is skilled at reading blueprints and schematics, and holds all necessary licensing. Assign work, manage productivity, and ensure tasks are completed efficiently and to Company standards. Manage project budgets, track costs, and submit invoices to Accounts Payable in a timely manner. Analyze blueprints, schematics, and drawings to plan the layout and installation of new or upgraded electrical systems, ensuring they meet all specifications and local codes. Consult with engineering consultants as needed for complex designs. Install, maintain, and upgrade electrical system components, including lighting, fire alarms, panels, and wiring. Diagnose and repair electrical problems or failures. Place conduit, pull wires, and connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, and other components. Expertly install service panels. Regularly inspect electrical systems and equipment to identify hazards and ensure all work adheres to federal, state, and local building codes, as well as OSHA regulations. Oversee the project site to ensure safety standards are followed without exception, including the use of PPE and Lockout/Tagout procedures. Maintain and order electrical supplies as needed, perform demolition of existing systems, and safely operate elevated platforms such as scissor and boom lifts. Work with outside electrical contractors to ensure consistency across all Buncher properties and perform other duties as assigned to ensure the effective functioning of the work unit. Qualifications High School diploma or GED required. City of Pittsburgh Electrician license is required, or willing to obtain license within 6 months of employment. 3+ years of professional experience in commercial and/or industrial electrical work. Proficiency in using a wide range of electrical hand and power tools, as well as diagnostic equipment. Comfortable working in various conditions, including confined spaces and at heights. Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform manual labor. Must have proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software, including project management and scheduling platforms. Strong communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with team members. A valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
