The Transmission JourneymanLineman B is responsible for performing safe and efficient construction, maintenance, and repair of energized and de-energized transmission lines. Job Duties and Responsibilities
Safely perform new construction, maintenance, and repair of energized and de-energized conductors.
Set poles and anchors in accordance with safety policies and specifications.
Operate aerial devices and climb wood, steel, and other structures to perform line work.
Maintain company vehicles, tools, and equipment in good working condition.
Assist in assembling, framing, and erecting poles and basic line structures.
Install all types of compression connections and assist with wire stringing and sagging.
Read and interpret blueprints; assist in identifying and resolving structural issues.
Work independently on de-energized lines and contribute effectively within a team.
Properly install and remove PPE and cover-up materials; inspect rubber goods and safety equipment.
Understand and apply grounding procedures, minimum approach distances, and flag/tag protocols.
Tie various lineman knots and utilize hand lines appropriately.
Perform basic bucket rescue and escape procedures.

About this Role
An Apprentice Lineman for SOUTHERN ELECTRIC CORPORATION Employees classifications are attending training in an approved forty-two (42) month apprenticeship program or a certified testing program or must have two (2) years of continuous experience in apprentice work substation/line construction/maintenance experience. Apprentice Lineman will work with Linemen who have a working knowledge of all aspects of substation/line work and have the capability and expertise to work independently if required. A valid commercial driver's license is required.

* Shall attend training classes as prescribed by the Training Department.

* May be required to work on or near energized parts, but only under the direct observation of a JourneymanLineman and/or a JourneymanLineman Foreman.
* Required to hang travelers from poles or towers.
* Capable of operating most const. equipment booms etc. if needed.
* Capable of using plumb bob and pulling guy wires on angle and dead end structures.
* Capable of climbing and handling 6 or 9 ton hoist, 60 lb. grips, or sleeving press from poles or towers.
* Capable of hanging and operating carts for spacing bundle conductors.

Position Summary
The Lead Electrician oversees day-to-day field installation, service, and commissioning of electrical systems on commercial/industrial projects. This role plans work, assigns crews, ensures code-compliant installations, and partners with Project Management, Safety, and other trades to deliver on schedule, on budget, and with zero safety incidents. The Lead Electrician is a working leader-hands-on in the field while coaching apprentices and journeymen.
Key Responsibilities
Crew leadership & planning: Build daily/weekly plans, assign tasks, supervise 2-10 electricians/apprentices, and run productive toolbox talks.
Installations: Layout and install raceways (EMT/RMC/PVC), panels, switchgear, transformers, lighting, grounding/bonding, and terminations per NEC and drawings.
Controls & power: Install and troubleshoot motor controls, VFDs, starters, contactors, control circuits; support equipment start-ups.
Medium/low voltage: Support MV/LV distribution, gear setting, cable pulls, terminations, and torque/megger testing per specs.
QA/QC & documentation: Interpret plans/specs, RFIs, and submittals; perform redlines/as-builts; complete daily reports and time/quantity tracking.
Safety & compliance: Enforce LOTO, arc-flash boundaries, PPE, and OSHA/NEC compliance; lead JSAs and near-miss reporting.
Coordination: Interface with GCs, owners, inspectors, and other trades; attend coordination meetings; sequence work to avoid conflicts.
Materials & tools: Forecast material/equipment needs, manage deliveries, maintain tools/test instruments, and control waste/rework.
Troubleshooting & service: Diagnose faults using multimeters, meggers, and other test gear; resolve issues to minimize downtime.
Training & mentorship: Coach apprentices on code, workmanship, and safety; provide performance feedback and skill development.
Closeout: Support functional testing, punch lists, commissioning, and turnover packages.
Qualifications
Required
5+ years of commercial/industrial electrical experience, including crew lead, foreman, or equivalent leadership.
Strong knowledge of NEC, local codes, and construction best practices.
Proficiency with conduit bending (hand/hickey/shoebox), panelboard/gear terminations, and device/lighting install.
Ability to read and interpret one-lines, wiring diagrams, and plan sets; competent with take-offs and layout.
Skilled in testing and diagnostics (multimeter, megger, continuity/insulation resistance, torque verification).
Proven record of jobsite safety leadership (PPE, LOTO, arc-flash awareness) and quality workmanship.
Effective communication, crew scheduling, and coordination with PMs/GCs/inspectors.
Valid driver's license; ability to lift 50+ lbs, climb ladders, and work in field conditions.
Preferred
State Journeyman or Master Electrician license.
OSHA 10/30; NFPA 70E/arc-flash training.
Experience with MV distribution, switchgear setting/commissioning, VFDs, generators/ATS, and basic PLC I/O.
Familiarity with Bluebeam/PlanGrid/Procore or similar; basic BIM/VDC coordination exposure.
Experience in data centers, healthcare, manufacturing, or mission-critical environments.
CPR/First Aid; lift/forklift certifications.

Supervises hourly craft electrical employees. Works under the general directions of a foreman, superintendent or other company management position.

Track and report to foreman daily job activity details: For example - number of foundations installed, length of cable tray installed, length of cable installed, specific equipment installed, number of terminations, number of cable bands installed, etc.; to include hours and man power required to complete task.
Understanding of hazardous area equipment classifications, and IP ratings for proper installation.
Comprehend and follow engineering drawings/notes, schematics/notes, wiring diagrams/notes, and vendor manuals.
Recognize discrepancies in relation to the build specifications.
Effectively plan work, follow procedures, and determine equipment material and manpower needs.
Knowledge of and experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Outlook.
Familiar with updated codes: DnV/ABS/Coast Guard/API/MODU/NEC/IEEE/IEC.
Ability to effectively communicate, build, and lead a productive work group. Perform as a member of a management team.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:
8 years' experience in the Marine Ship Building and Offshore construction including Hazardous Areas classifications and equipment.
Formal electrical training; i.e. 4 year electrical apprenticeship program, vocational certification, trade school for electrical commercial/industrial wiring or equivalent.
