In this role, you will learn through hands-on experience and mentorship by seasoned professionals as you play a fundamental role in the care and management of our resident-flock of around 120 cranes. Many of our existing staff started their careers in this program, and apprentices typically accept full-time positions at other zoos, conservation organizations, and graduate programs at the completion of their apprenticeships. The position runs for 6 months starting in March/April 2026, with some flexibility in start and end dates. It includes a stipend of $1,550/month plus housing. About the Role As an Aviculture Apprentice, you'll gain hands-on experience in crane care, breeding, and conservation. You'll also participate in facility maintenance, crane behavior studies, and safe handling techniques, while assisting with behavioral observations, enrichment programs, and invasive species management. Additionally, you'll engage with visitors during keeper chats and tours and contribute to a project within ICF's Crane Conservation Department. This apprenticeship offers opportunities to explore veterinary medicine, take part in field conservation activities, and collaborate on crane ecology and ecosystem restoration projects.
