Essential Functions: The Lineman performs highly skilled, journey-level transmission, distribution, and electrical work in the installation, construction, maintenance, and repair of underground and overhead electric transmission, distribution and service lines, transformers, meters, metering equipment, electrical substations, and related equipment. Receives training online, in classroom and on-the-job as well as train/mentor apprentice and groundhand workers on the project team Operates motorized equipment, use hand tools, and perform routine maintenance on electrical equipment, machinery, and tools. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Follow safety rules and practices (Wearing PPE, Set-up Work Zone, Grounding Techniques, etc.) Experience in the installation and maintenance of various types of distribution and transmission lines ranging in voltages from 4kV to 500kV including wood poles, H-frames, steel poles, lattice structures, etc. Thorough knowledge of industry standards and best practices. Innovative with mean and methods Knowledge of and competence to perform hot stick work Know the tooling for line work and how to use, adjust and calibrate them Know what safety equipment is used in line work and how to test and examine it before use Know Lockout I Tag-out and tagging procedures Know how to read and understand a print for the system(s) they are working on Know electric safety and how electricity works. (Static, AC, DC, Grounding, Phasing, Induction, Step potential) Know and understand the operation of support equipment; digging equipment, pulling carts, reel trailers, etc. Know and understand the different types of electrical equipment used on an overhead electrical system Know proper wire pulling, sagging and deadending procedures Understand and demonstrate the proper methods for determining if a line is energized or not Know how to build and change out aerial equipment such as Transformers, Switched, Reclosers, etc Minimum Requirements: 3+ years of previous Lineman experience Due to the inherently dangerous nature of the industry and requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, employees must be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods of time Must be able to work with hands above head for extended periods of time Must be able to walk, climb, and work from ladders, or at various heights, on uneven and slippery surfaces, performing mentally/physically demanding work under unfavorable weather conditions while handling equipment or material Must be able to climb a power pole using climbing hooks and belt Must be able to drive all vehicles assigned to the line crew, operate digger derrick to set poles, etc Must be capable of pulling, pushing, bending, stooping and kneeling on a frequent basis Must have sufficient eyesight to judge distances and coordination to get and use the appropriate equipment and tools and assist other line repairers Able to travel long distances on short notice, when required Able to work for extended periods in various locations, when required Able to lift in excess of 100 lbs Able to properly inspect rubber gloves and PPE Must have endurance necessary to perform these duties throughout a standard eight (8) or ten (10) hour day according to the schedule. Class C Lineman is an entry level lineman position in the construction, maintenance and repair of electrical overhead distribution systems. This position works at various locations. The position may also be required to travel to another state depending on customer demands. Essential Functions: Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair work of energized and de-energized overhead work. Stringing overhead wire. Setting poles and anchors. Assists with installing transformers, lightening arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches and switchgear. Assists in replacing fuses in transformers and clears faulted circuits and systems. Frequently works with energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others. Maintains company vehicles, equipment and tools in good working order. Electrical Spec-High Voltage Inspect, repair, replace, install, adjust, maintain, and make necessary tests on all medium and low voltage 15KV, 4160V, 480V and 208V utility systems, equipment, motors, MCC panels, generators, transformers, switchgears, substations, distribution systems. Responsibilities * Work from prints, diagrams, specification, and instructions covering emergency and scheduled repairs; as well as installation, testing, and inspection of work to be done on electrical utility systems, both medium and low voltages: including, but not limited to, distribution systems, 125VDC systems, and UPS systems, as assigned. * Analyze, troubleshoot, modify, install, and repair power delivery and distribution equipment and electrical circuits using prints, diagrams, and test instruments. * Test, inspect, clean, repair, dismantle, adjust, and replace all power equipment, transformers, switchgear, MCC, control panels, motors, and various other electrical apparatus. * Assist and perform switching on electrical utility systems, placing blocking, grounds, locks, etc., on utility systems (15KV, 4160V and 480V), as required by operational switching procedures. * Work on service lines for the isolation or grounding of circuits, maintenance, and troubleshooting demands to maintain operation. * Directs other repair personnel as assigned. * Prepare and maintain records and reports on electrical utility equipment for maintenance programs based on all information obtained through tests and preventative maintenance procedures. Position Overview: The Class A Lineman is a skilled position in the construction, maintenance and repair of electrical overhead distribution systems. This position works at various locations and may also be required to travel to another state depending on customer demands. Class C Lineman is an entry level lineman position in the construction, maintenance and repair of electrical overhead distribution systems. This position works at various locations. The position may also be required to travel to another state depending on customer demands. Essential Functions: Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair work of energized and de-energized overhead work. Stringing overhead wire. Setting poles and anchors. Assists with installing transformers, lightening arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches and switchgear. Assists in replacing fuses in transformers and clears faulted circuits and systems. Frequently works with energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others. Maintains company vehicles, equipment and tools in good working order. Does all other related work as required to complete the job. Minimum Requirements: 1-2 years of minimum experience required. Able to perform rigorous physical labor. Able to identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit. Must be familiar with induced voltage. Capable of assisting with the installation and hook up of a single phase transformer. Capable of safely setting a pole. Capable of working at heights and/or confined spaces. Capable of properly installing and removing PPE and cover up. Capable of checking voltage on transformers. Capable of installing and removing a service. Capable of properly inspecting rubber goods and PPE. Must be able to climb different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.) and possess the necessary tools to do so. Understands how to tie various lineman knots. Capable of making up and using a hand line. Understands grounding procedures. Understands proper equipment set-up and grounding procedures. Understands how and when to use Kellum grips. Able to identify different types of materials used in line work. Able to travel long distances on short notice, when required. Able to work for extended periods in various locations, when required. Able to obtain a Commercial Driver's License. A Commercial Driver's License is preferred. Able to lift in excess of 50 lbs. Must be able to work outside, frequently in inclement weather. Willing to work over-time when requested. The purpose of this position is to perform the full range of a (journeyman) electrician level duties. Responsibilities * Installs, modifies, repairs, maintains, troubleshoots loads and tests new and installed equipment including secondary distribution lines and circuits used to supply distribution panels, switch gear, power and control circuits, electrical intrusion alarms, and cathodic protection systems. * Knowledgeable of high intensity lighting systems, and related equipment. * Working from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and determines the routing placement, type, size, gauge, balance load, continuity, and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment, and controls. * Skilled in installing underground cable and conduit, running overhead wire and conduit to attach cross arms making electrical connection by splicing and/or other methods. * Ability to install home and industrial services by running wires from pole to entrance weatherhead. ~ Ability to install street lighting circuits, lamps, and related hardware. * Determines size, type and gauge of wiring coupling, conduits, relays, etc., effects necessary repairs and modifications. * Must know and apply the principles, materials, and safety standards applicable to the electrical trade: including interpretation of plans, blueprints and engineering designs: use of tools and test equipment and ability to plan and competently accomplish assigned duties. * Connects single phase, three phase, and variable speed motors ranging from fractional horsepower up to 150 horse power. * Calculates motor protection in control circuits, and determines overload sizes and required phase protection. * Troubleshoots sub panels to determine and correct load balance on phases. * Tests electrical circuits for resistance, current, and potential difference. Minimum Knowledge Associates degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two year college or technical school; five (5) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must posses an apprentice license from the City of San Antonio. Must maintain a valid state driver license and be qualified to operate government general-purpose vehicles. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Work Environment Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
