Daily Activities
* Strings, splices, transfers and sags wire in energized or de-energized circuits and connects wires and transformers as specified or directed. Shortens or lengthens lines by adding or removing wire, using a variety of types of splices, connectors, sleeves or clamps. Regularly works above ground on poles or steel towers using climbers and safety belt or operating man lift equipment, boom truck or other specialized equipment. Uses a variety of underground locating and fault finding equipment.
* Routes or re-routes power lines over, under or around existing lines and structures, regularly working above, on, or in close proximity to energized lines. Selects and uses a variety of "hot line" tools and makes use of rubber gloves, line hoses, mechanical jumpers, fiber guards, blankets and other protective devices as specified. Works on all voltages as required throughout the system.
* Installs, removes, transfers, maintains and/or repairs cross arms, pins, insulators, transformer and switch racks and other overhead pole and Underground Residential Distribution equipment using a variety of hand tools, equipment and power tools.
* Installs and removes transformers, including primary and secondary current transformers and self-contained meters; cut-outs, disconnecting switches, circuit breakers and other overhead line.
* Performs line switching or sectionalizing as directed. Performs emergency repairs, phases and connects circuits under load; performs load checks and balances feeders as required.
* Inspects lines, poles and equipment for signs of damage or wear and reports deficiencies.
* Assists in carrying poles, digging holes, picking poles and other such operations involved in the setting or replacing of poles; may erect steel towers.
* Assists in on-the-job training of apprentices and other crew members in maintenance and construction of power lines.
* May troubleshoot electrical problems on company and customer equipment.
* Perform all physical requirements of the position including being able to lift 50 lbs.
* Works at heights greater than ten feet (example: in bucket or platform truck) to install equipment or connectors. Climbs ladders, poles, and towers on a daily or continuous basis as required.
* Operates boom, bucket trucks and other heavy equipment requiring a valid Texas CDL

Journeyman Electrician
Journeyman lineman job in Midland, TX
The Journeyman Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, repairing, and designing a wide range of electrical systems. This role evaluates material requirements, reviews and verifies specifications and drawings, determines wiring layouts, and performs electrical testing. The Journeyman Electrician may also retrofit equipment with updated controls to enhance efficiency and performance. This position reports directly to the I&E Superintendent.
Primary Job Functions:
Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, architectural plans, electrical schematics, and code specifications to establish wiring layouts.
Run conduit, install wiring devices, troubleshoot systems, and perform quality control testing.
Troubleshoot, test, and repair emergency generators, power distribution systems, and other electrical systems to ensure proper operation.
Perform upgrades and preventive maintenance on electrical control systems and equipment.
Conduct tests, diagnose issues, isolate problems, replace damaged wiring, and perform conduit installation as needed.
Supervise apprentices and general electricians; manage supplies, materials, and basic inventory.
Train electricians and execute projects independently without direct supervision.
Stay current on industry technologies, electrical services, and manufacturing processes.
Perform physically demanding tasks including moving/lifting heavy materials and digging trenches for conduit installation.
Experience:
Minimum of 3+ years of industrial electrical installation, maintenance, and repair experience.
Education & Training:
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Valid Journeyman Electrician License or Master Electrician License.
Competencies:
Strong proficiency in electrical installation, maintenance, and repair across industrial and commercial settings.
Reliable and punctual; consistently reports to assigned job sites as scheduled.
Full understanding and compliance with Strike's safety requirements, OSHA standards, and all NEC, state, and local codes.
High level of craftsmanship with strong attention to detail.
Ability to visualize completed work and plan, organize, and schedule tasks to meet deadlines efficiently.
Demonstrates proper and safe handling of all tools, equipment, and materials.
Capable of setting up and verifying field devices and controls per installation requirements and owner specifications.
Accurate reading and comprehension of labels, manuals, site maps, directions, and written instructions.
Knowledgeable in hand signals for operators and the impact of soil conditions on underground installations and cables.
Skilled in directing and training apprentices and helpers to meet production requirements.
Maintains personal tools in accordance with company policy.
Competent working around live/energized electrical components.
Strong manual dexterity, excellent hand-eye coordination, and ability to distinguish and identify wire colors.
Effective communicator with strong problem-solving abilities.
Familiarity with a wide range of electrical tools, machinery, and equipment.
