Daily Activities
Strings, splices, transfers and sags wire in energized or de-energized circuits and connects wires and transformers as specified or directed. Shortens or lengthens lines by adding or removing wire, using a variety of types of splices, connectors, sleeves or clamps. Regularly works above ground on poles or steel towers using climbers and safety belt or operating man lift equipment, boom truck or other specialized equipment. Uses a variety of underground locating and fault finding equipment.
Routes or re-routes power lines over, under or around existing lines and structures, regularly working above, on, or in close proximity to energized lines. Selects and uses a variety of "hot line" tools and makes use of rubber gloves, line hoses, mechanical jumpers, fiber guards, blankets and other protective devices as specified. Works on all voltages as required throughout the system.
Installs, removes, transfers, maintains and/or repairs cross arms, pins, insulators, transformer and switch racks and other overhead pole and Underground Residential Distribution equipment using a variety of hand tools, equipment and power tools.
Installs and removes transformers, including primary and secondary current transformers and self-contained meters; cut-outs, disconnecting switches, circuit breakers and other overhead line.
Performs line switching or sectionalizing as directed. Performs emergency repairs, phases and connects circuits under load; performs load checks and balances feeders as required.
Inspects lines, poles and equipment for signs of damage or wear and reports deficiencies.
Assists in carrying poles, digging holes, picking poles and other such operations involved in the setting or replacing of poles; may erect steel towers.
Assists in on-the-job training of apprentices and other crew members in maintenance and construction of power lines.
May troubleshoot electrical problems on company and customer equipment.
Perform all physical requirements of the position including being able to lift 50 lbs.
Works at heights greater than ten feet (example: in bucket or platform truck) to install equipment or connectors. Climbs ladders, poles, and towers on a daily or continuous basis as required.
Operates boom, bucket trucks and other heavy equipment requiring a valid Texas CDL

Responsive Services, prevention and intervention:
Academic concerns, school related concerns (tardiness, absences & truancy, misbehavior, school-avoidance, drop-out prevention), coping with stress, conflict resolution and anxiety
Provide referrals to community services and agencies as appropriate
Assist in identification of students who would benefit from special programs and services
Assist in an effective referral process for students to access special programs and services
Work with parents and staff on Behavior Intervention Plans
System support including program delivery and support:
Guidance program planning and development, parent education, teacher/administrator consultation, staff development for educators, school improvement planning, counselors' professional development, research and publishing, community outreach and public relations.
Provide resources and training for faculty and staff to enhance the implementation of the guidance program
Educate the school staff, parents, and the community about the guidance program through a public information program
Consult with parents, teachers, administrators and other relevant individuals to enhance the educational experience for students
Conduct at least one in-service program in the building for teachers and administrators
Maintain a working knowledge of current trends and issues in education
Enhance professional development by attending appropriate staff development to meet district requirements including staff development provided by the district, local professional counselor organizations, regional training centers, and/or state counselor conferences.
Prepare reports as requested by the Director of Guidance and Counseling

This position will be responsible for the execution of facility maintenance and testing activities in high-voltage transmission substations. The position will have an emphasis on substation and protection and control (relay) equipment. The apprentice will be able to perform basic tasks associated with system equipment repair and maintenance as well as provide technical assistance and oversight to contractors. Maintenance and testing activities include but not limited to air switches, gas circuit breakers, transformers, reactors, relays, meters, battery banks, and telecommunications. The apprentice will be responsible for the safety, work quality, and proper tracking and reporting of completed job tasks. Additionally, the apprentice will be enrolled in WETT's four-year apprentice program once onboarded.
This position will be located in Big Spring, TX, and will report to the Field Operations Supervisor.
DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for either directly performing or overseeing contractors performing the following work associated with all relay and substation equipment: installation, maintenance, testing, adjusting, troubleshooting, repairs, and switching.
Monthly, quarterly, bi-annual, and annual system inspections.
Safely operate various types of equipment, bucket truck, aerial lift, skid steer, forklifts, etc.
Perform diagnostic testing and analysis of test results on protection and control, and substation equipment.
Responsible for maintaining WETT vehicles, test equipment, and tools in good working conditions.
Check, verify, and prepare routine reports.
Comply with WETT safety and environmental policies.
Participate in an on-call rotation.
Participate and complete four-year apprentice program administered by WETT.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High School diploma is required.
Associate's degree in an electrical field is preferred but not required.
This position will be required to participate in WETT's apprenticeship program.
Skills and Experience:
This is an entry level position; however, previous experience and/or internship in the electric utility or electrical contractor industry is preferred.
General understanding of electrical equipment such as circuit breakers, switches, relays, and transmission line components.
General knowledge of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) and how it relates to the electric utility.
General understanding of transmission line systems and how they relate to the electrical grid. Preferred to have knowledge in of maintenance standard practices, techniques, and applicable codes and standards.
Ability to adapt to changing technology.
Ability to work in an outdoor environment for extended periods of time.
Must be able to sit, stand, kneel, or crawl for extended periods of time.
Must be capable of lifting in excess of 50lbs.
Must be able to work independently and with others.
Must be a self-starter with a positive attitude.
Willingness to work overtime or long hours during when needed. Schedules can change frequently and with short notice.
Must be capable of working in close proximity to energized substation and transmission line equipment.
Ability to use a multi-meter to troubleshoot electrical problems.
