This position is responsible for planning and architecting future upgrades along with outlining preventative maintenance plans for all lift and high voltage infrastructure.

POSITION OVERVIEW

General Purpose
A District Lineman is a Journeyman who is qualified as, and performs all the functions of a Journeyman, and is in charge of and resides inside or within ten (10) road miles of their service area apart from a local or district headquarters. Their residence will serve as the headquarters and the headquarters area will be the service area at time of bid. They must be capable of reading meters, connecting services, repairing lines, collecting, load and voltage surveys, and handling the general Company affairs in the area assigned to them. They will be responsible directly to Management. The area assigned to the control of a District Lineman will be one that is not of sufficient area or serving enough customers to justify establishing a District Office.
Responsibilities
As a JourneymanLineman you will install, maintain and repair all transmission and distribution electrical systems and associated equipment, both overhead and underground, while utilizing line trucks, aerial boom, lifts and wire pulling equipment. Maintenance of lines and services will require pole climbing, hot sticking, and working out of truck mounted bucket lifts to construct, repair or maintain line equipment or string, splice and sag wire on live or dead circuits. Operates switches, cutouts and uses grounding devices to work on de-energized lines and equipment. You may train and direct the work of a trainee in the trade.
Requirements
* Completion of a formal training program for a JourneymanLineman. Must meet examining board review of skills and experience.
* Must own, or be able to obtain, a Class A Commercial Driver's License.
* Two to four years experience as a Journeymen Lineman.
* Must live inside or within ten (10) miles of the service area.
This position may require a post-offer, pre-placement physical capacity screening, conducted by a licensed physical therapist, to assure the candidate meets the physical demands of the job. The screening will assess only the identified physical demands of the job being applied for.
Physical Demands
The job duties of Lineman require lifting in excess of 75 lbs from floor to waist and waist to overhead, carrying in excess of 75 lbs with both hands, and pushing and pulling in excess of 100 lbs of exertional force. Job duties of the Lineman require sustained, awkward positions/postures including bending and twisting at the waist and neck; reaching forward, to the side, across the body and overhead. Additional requirements of the Lineman position include forceful grip and pinch; manipulation of small objects; balancing on one or both legs during dynamic activities; manipulation of large objects during activities requiring balance and sustained awkward postures.

**Who We Are:**
Energy Operations (EO) is responsible for the safe, reliable and efficient operation of Stanford's Central Energy Facility (CEF) and campus distribution systems, as well as the new Stanford in Redwood City Central Energy Facility.
CEF provides electricity for the majority of the university's main campus via a 100MW substation, which is about twice the current campus load. Electricity at the substation is transformed from 60 kilovolts (kV) down to 12kV, which can then be distributed as high voltage electric power to campus.
The campus electrical distribution system is a largely underground system of 12kV and 4kV cables and switches. Typically, power from multiple sources is brought into individual buildings after being stepped down to 480 volts. Load centers within the buildings step the voltage down to normal service voltages and distribute it to loads throughout the building, with backup emergency power available for all vital loads.
The Energy Operations team manages installation, operation, and maintenance of the electrical distribution infrastructure. A Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system provides real-time information and diagnostics of the campus to monitor the power flow throughout the network, allowing for quick response to system faults.
**Job Purpose:**
Employees in this classification perform journey level and high voltage electrician work involved with the installation, maintenance, operation and repair of the electrical substations, electrical distribution systems, and general low voltage utility controls under general supervision. Assignments can be received in the form of work orders, blueprints, sketches, verbal instructions or employees may be expected to schedule their own work, determine work priorities. At this level employees are expected to diagnose problems independently and determine the appropriate method and procedure needed to complete the work. Working with the Lead and co-workers, the HV Electrician Specialist is expected to ensure that the work specifications conform to shop standards. May work with the Lead person to order materials needed for work.
**Core Duties*:**
+ Works in areas of controlled access such as substations not open to unqualified individuals.
+ Works on high voltage power distribution systems 600 Volts AC and above.
+ Splices and terminates high voltage cables using manufacturer and hand tape methods.

Splice and terminate wires at junction points
Troubleshoot equipment electrical systems and control circuits and build control panels from drawings
Prepare sketches and schematic diagrams showing the location of wiring and electrical systems
Delegate tasks and assist with training other employees
