1st Class Maintenance Electrician - Second Shift Purpose: Colonna's Shipyard is seeking a 1st Class Maintenance Electrician to support maintenance operations on Second Shift in our Shipyard in Norfolk, VA. Job Description:
Perform work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical theory and principles, statutory codes, properties of materials, and operation principles of electrical equipment under direction of supervisor.
Ensure compliance of OSHA, company, and customer safety requirements concerning work assignments.
Troubleshoot, install, maintain, and repair electrical and electronic equipment not limited to AC/DC generators, switchboards, distribution panels, electrical motors, lighting, alarm circuits, cables, and connectors.
Install and connect facility lighting and equipment circuits using conduit, hangers, and building wire.
Coordinate preventative maintenance to ensure downtime for repairs is minimized.
Place conduit, pipes, or tubing inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas; and pull insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits.
Read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and other drawings to complete assigned tasks properly.
Identify and categorize cables by type, number of conductors, and wire size.
Adjust, align, or replace components of motors, generators, and alternators not limited to bearing, centrifugal switches, brushes, and diodes.
Test electrical characteristics such as voltage construct instrument panels using hand tools, ruler, dividers, and power drills, following specifications.
Enter work areas via ladder, stairs, gangways with tool bags and necessary equipment.
Become familiar with shipboard electrical operations as necessary.
Disconnect and reconnect motors and electrical equipment.
Notify supervisors of potentially dangerous electrical equipment and corrective actions taken
Control cost in assigned area of responsibility.
Other duties may be assigned as workload dictates.
Qualifications:
Must have at least seven (7) years of experience as an electrician.
Must be able to read, interpret, and understand simple schematics and blueprints.
Must have knowledge of and ability to use hand tools and instruments associated with the trade. (i.e., flukes, meggers, temp sensors, drills, blast machines, grinders, test panels.)
Must have thorough knowledge and understanding of wire sizes and capacity of each.
Must have thorough knowledge and understanding of AC and DC power and control of same.
Must be able to accurately perform component and/or system troubleshooting to diagnose problems on the first attempt.
Must be able to assist with the performance of on-site electrical service for system grooms and checkouts, minor repairs, connectorization, and system configuration validation.
Must be able to work effectively with others.
Must have regular, reliable attendance.
Desired Qualifications:
Ability to obtain DBIDS preferred.
Maritime experience preferred.

The Role
The selected individual will be required to repair and perform preventative maintenance on high voltage systems above 600 volts. Other duties include troubleshoot/repair electrical circuits, calibrate equipment, interpret schematics in a complex industrial setting, and perform preventative maintenance on Emergency Diesel Generators and associated control circuits.

What you will do
Under general supervision, performs installation and checkout on a variety of systems utilizing codes, company procedures, engineering drawings and personal analysis. Works with "Prime" electrical contractors as required. Develops a positive interface with the customer to ensure confidence and satisfaction with the system installation.

What you will do
Under general supervision, performs installation and checkout on a variety of systems utilizing codes, company procedures, engineering drawings and personal analysis. Works with "Prime" electrical contractors as required. Develops a positive interface with the customer to ensure confidence and satisfaction with the system installation.
How you will do it
Installs raceways, cables and wiring to meet local or national codes, standards and customer system requirements. Lays out electrical controls installation to provide lowest total installed cost.
Mounts and terminates control equipment as needed.
May assist sales with electrical estimates, including walking retrofit projects.
Determines and validates final termination points to equipment interfaced with the installed system (i.e. chillers, boilers, rooftop units, etc.).
Checks out wiring and terminations of field-installed equipment with test instruments as needed (i.e. volt meters, hand-held testers, etc.).
Keeps management informed of job needs, progress, and issues.
Completes paperwork, including but not limited to time sheets, expense reports, and on-site documentation. Provides feedback to JCI Engineering on changes and keeps as-built drawings current.
Resolve job site conflicts regarding installation issues or escalate concerns to management as required.
Communicate with the customer as necessary upon arrival and before leaving the work site.
Adheres to Johnson Controls safety programs and policies.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain machinery, meeting maintenance requirements for 480-volt, 3 phase systems, and minimizing downtime will be necessary
Support, troubleshoot, improve, and maintain high-speed production and packaging machinery
Utilize SAP to accurately and thoroughly detail and track all corrective and preventive maintenance performed throughout the course of the day; including searching and issuing parts, documenting equipment issues and entering inspection/measurement points

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

The department invites applications for Electrician Technician II. Electrician will assist in maintenance of all building and exterior electrical repairs, as well as equipment and machinery repairs.
Essential duties include but are not limited to:
1. Inspects and test electrical lighting, signal, communication and power circuits and equipment. Change bulbs when needed.
2. Isolates defects in wiring, switches, motors, and other electrical equipment, using suitable testing instruments.
3. Use of appropriate electrical testing meters to test circuits and verify power.
4. Replaces faulty switches, sockets, plugs, fuses, insulators and other simple elements of electrical systems, fixtures, and appliances to ensure proper operation per trade practice.

About the Position
An apprentice supports the Education and Preservation Mission of Historic Trades and the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation by learning and demonstrating the hand skills required to manufacture traditional work of the colonial period. The Apprentice will research primary and secondary 18th-century sources and object-based study. The Apprentice will work with artisans of various trades, historians, curators, and conservators to better understand a specific trade. The Apprentice will preserve and perpetuate the trade skills by providing a pro-active interpretation of the work, the state of technology, and the diverse people who populated and produced such work in the 18th century.
Essential Functions:
Learns and develops proficiency in working with appropriate materials, tools, and 18th c. methods as outlined through a five-level curriculum under the direction of the master or journeyman supervisor.
Research available information and may conduct ongoing supplemental research to the existing body of knowledge.
Applies learned hand skills and research through demonstration while employing the National Association of Interpretation techniques to provide in-depth thematic interpretations of the trade, history, and products and services in the community, region, and world.
Assists with in-depth seminars, workshops, and forums as required using Colonial Williamsburg assigned technological platforms.
Adheres to safety and security procedures for work, workshops, tools, and people
Performs other related duties as assigned.
