Job Description
The Apprentice Teacher position provides a unique opportunity for talented individuals with limited or no teaching experience to explore the field of education and to gain hands-on practice and the training necessary to become a successful full-time classroom teacher. Apprentice Teachers will have an opportunity to observe best practices in classroom instruction and education reform from experienced teachers and school leaders at a leading charter management organization. Apprentice Teachers observe and learn from Master Teachers, co-teach with teacher-leaders, provide in-house substitute teaching coverage for teachers, and support teachers with tutoring, grading, and individual or small group student instruction. Depending on school needs and candidate background, Apprentice Teachers may also teach their own class of students, allowing for direct teaching experience within a more limited teaching load. Apprentice Teachers will also assist with a variety of work inside and outside of the classroom, including teaching Enrichment classes, organizing student events, and developing mentoring relationships with students. Through full participation in summer and school-year professional development, as well as regular meetings with an instructional coach, Apprentice Teachers will have many opportunities to gain the experience and support necessary to develop their teaching skills. By the end of the year, Apprentice Teachers will be very strong candidates for full-time teaching positions.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach classes on behalf of Deans and teacher-leaders who are observing other teachers;
Provide substitute teaching coverage for teachers within the school;
Potentially teach one class or small groups of students;
Periodically plan and deliver instruction, gradually taking on more responsibility throughout the year;
Develop teaching skills to potentially become a full-time teacher at the school;
Support students by providing one-on-one and small group tutoring daily, and small group intervention and student support;
Observe Master Teachers in order to improve instructional techniques and classroom management;
Meet regularly with a coach to implement feedback on lessons and instruction;
Teach or help coordinate an Enrichment class;
Assist teachers with instruction, assessments, grading, and other classroom responsibilities;
As appropriate, perform all duties expected of classroom teachers, including but not limited to:

Job Summary:

Responsibilities
Performs all duties according to prescribed safety procedures and uses appropriate safety equipment.

Provides support for line crews during all phases of construction activity.
Qualifications
Must be able to climb pole to cable height using pole climber gaffs.

Must be able to lift, reach, dig and carry heavy objects; with frequent lifting up to 50 pounds and infrequent lifting of up to 100 pounds.
This position requires significant time doing manual labor functions, walking on uneven ground, working in tight spaces and in general, being overall physically demanding. Must be able to perform heavy physical work and perform duties in a safe and efficient manner.
Work up to 6 days per week in an all-weather environment and be willing to travel as required.

Monitor, operate and trouble shoot campus-wide energy management systems.
Replace and rewire energy management system devices.
Operate and maintain stand-alone boilers both steam and hot water.
Repair and replace various HVAC systems.
Do both minor and major plumbing repairs and installation.
Wire motors, motor starters, relays, contactors, and other electrical devices.
Troubleshoot, repair and replace electrical devices, such as bulbs, ballasts, wiring, switches, outlets, and breakers; install new lighting.
Read and understand building blue prints for mechanical systems, plumbing and electrical lay-out.
Read and understand electrical schematics.
Test and troubleshoot electronic, computerized fire alarm devices.
Test emergency electrical generators.
Analyze and handle any emergency or maintenance problems that occur.
Supervise student workers.
Maintains a safe working environment within and around their facilities and associated equipment and supplies including, but not limited to, obtaining Safety Data Sheet (SDS) information pertaining to any hazards associated with their work environment.
Safety: Participate in safety training and comply with safety rules, regulations, and protocols.
Perform additional duties and assist with special projects as assigned.
Requirements:
Formal Education: Technical degree preferred, or equivalent experience in steam boilers, electrical, hot water and steam heating and air conditioning systems.
Experience: Three years of experience in operation and maintenance of low pressure boilers, electric, air conditioning, ventilation and plumbing.
Additional Knowledge/Skills: Ability to run and understand various types of equipment, including, but not limited to, welders, torches, pipe-threaders, drills, grinders, man-lifts, fork lifts, multi-purpose meters and computers. Must have a working knowledge of applicable regulatory code (fire, electrical, boiler, etc.). Must be able to read electrical and mechanical blue prints. Must be able to be trained in confined spaces, lockout-tag out, fall protection, bloodborne pathogens, hazardous waste, and forklift, respirator use.
Essential Functions: With or without reasonable accommodations the incumbent must be able to read and write and speak the English language at a college level, be capable of performing sometimes complex mathematical calculations, statistical calculations and other higher mathematical operations, must be able to communicate with all levels of the institution in written and spoken form. The individual must be able to work independently. The ability to maintain regular and prompt attendance is essential to the successful performance of this position. Other essential functions may be required.
Physical Environment: Personal Protective Equipment must be worn when required. A respiratory function test and the ability to use respirators may be required. Stairs and uneven surfaces may be present; Artificial lifts, etc. may or may not be available. The position may require the incumbent to walk outdoors in all types of weather to other buildings or offices located on the campus. The Campus is located in an area that contains numerous hills and slopes and may not always be fully accessible for mobility impaired individuals
