What We Are Looking For The Apprentice Lineman assists in the installation, maintenance, repair, and reconstruction of overhead and underground power lines under the direct supervision of a Class A Lineman or Supervisor. This position is designed to develop practical skills and technical knowledge essential for advancement in the electrical line trade. What You Will Do Assist in the installation and repair of poles, crossarms, insulators, transformers, and other electrical components for overhead and underground power lines. Load, organize, and prepare tools, materials, and equipment needed for fieldwork. Perform excavation, compaction, and cable laying tasks under direct supervision. Climb poles using ladders or climbers when trained and authorized, while maintaining proper clearance distances from energized areas. Apply electrical safety practices, including respecting minimum approach distances and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times. Maintain clean and safe work zones to prevent hazards. Participate actively in technical and safety training programs, including OSHA/NESC standards, first aid, blueprint reading, and emergency response. Operate hand and power tools under supervision to support field operations. Handle equipment such as winches and booms with prior training. Assist in inventory checks and basic documentation of completed tasks to ensure accurate records. Required Qualifications High school diploma (preferably with technical courses in electricity or mechanics). Valid driver's license (Class 3 or higher preferred). Positive attitude to learn and follow instructions. Ability to work in teams under demanding conditions. Physical condition for lifting weights and working at heights. Availability for extended shifts and emergencies. Preferred Qualifications Basic experience in construction or electricity. Familiarity with basic electrical or mechanical tools. Prior exposure to safety protocols in outdoor or high-risk environments. Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English. What to Expect As an Apprentice Lineman at Hyperion Power Solutions, you'll spend most of your time in outdoor field settings, assisting seasoned linemen with the hands-on installation, maintenance, and repair of power lines-both overhead and underground-to ensure reliable electricity for Puerto Rico's communities. This entry-level role fits within the Operations - Transmission and Distribution team, where you'll report to a Crew Supervisor or Class A Lineman without managing others. Expect a structured path for growth, focusing on developing practical skills like climbing poles, handling tools, and adhering to safety standards under close supervision. Your days will involve physically demanding tasks such as loading equipment, digging trenches, and climbing heights in varying weather conditions, often requiring extended shifts or emergency responses during outages. You'll participate in ongoing training on OSHA/NESC regulations, first aid, and blueprint reading to build technical knowledge for advancement. Success in the first year means mastering basics safely, contributing to team efficiency, and progressing toward higher lineman classifications through evaluations. While no prior experience is required, you'll need a high school diploma, a valid driver's license, and the physical stamina for lifting and heights, plus a team-oriented mindset for urgent, high-stakes work. Preferred traits include basic construction background and tool familiarity, but training is provided for "nice-to-haves." Overall, this role offers a dynamic, mission-driven environment with moderate to high risks near energized lines, emphasizing safety gear and protocols-ideal for those eager to learn and make a tangible impact on energy infrastructure.
