Job Description Successful candidate must be within 30 minutes of the Texarkana Service Center Line Mechanic C: What You'll do: * Assemble, install, maintain, remove and competently inspect overhead, and underground facilities including conductors, cables, transformers, fixtures, structures and other associated equipment under immediate or general supervision as skill level dictates. * After completion of C-100, or equivalent experience, shall be competent to perform work on conductors and equipment energized up to 260 volts under general supervision. Assist with work on conductors and equipment energized at secondary voltages to 600 volts under immediate supervision of higher classification. * After completion of C100, or equivalent experience, test, de-energize and ground URD cable, Splice and terminate URD cable, and troubleshoot, repair and energize URD cable and equipment under immediate or general supervision as skill level dictates. * After completion of C-200, or equivalent experience, shall be capable of working on conductors and equipment energized up to 600 volts under general supervision. Use volt meters, amp meters, ground meggers, continuity testers and other electrical test equipment associated with line work on voltages up to 600 volts. * After completion of C-200, or equivalent experience, may cover up stationary tied in (cannot transfer) primary conductors and equipment under direct supervision as skill level dictates. * After completion of C-300, or equivalent experience, may cover up, transfer or move primary conductors and equipment under direct supervision as skill level dictates. * After completion of C-400, or equivalent experience, perform the same duties as outlined in the B classification during the first TWELVE MONTHS. Also, shall be capable of replacing fuses and operate switching and sectionalizing devices energized at any voltage when working under general supervision. * After twelve months in this classification, while performing work on energized lines and equipment, should progress from immediate supervision to general supervision as skill level dictates. * Install and operate cutouts, line switches, reclosers and other sectionalizing devices; re-fuse line and transformer devices; test de-energized line or equipment, and place or remove grounds. * Install, maintain and switch residential and commercial underground distribution facilities. Locate and correct trouble using cable-locating and fault finding tools and equipment. * Install and maintain multiple street light circuits. * Install three-phase transformer banks on poles, aerial or ground-mounted platforms. * Install three-phase regulator banks and energize or remove them from service. Responsible for the scheduling of repair, maintenance, and installation of power lines both above and underground and the installation of transformers and meters. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Demonstrate mastery and continue duties of Apprentice 1, 2, 3, and 4. Safely construct, replace, repair, and perform maintenance of electric distribution lines, structures, and equipment. Investigate trouble on lines and locate cause of power outages. Install, repair, and perform maintenance of underground cables. Install meter and transformer pads. Install and disconnect meters. Install and maintain security lighting. Assist in digging and tamping pole holes; load, unload, set and remove poles. Conduct line patrol activities and report maintenance needs, as necessary. Must be able to operate vehicles and heavy equipment including line trucks, boom trucks, underground trenchers, and digger trucks, and other associated equipment in a safe and proficient manner. Set up and remove barricades, flags, and signs for traffic control and work zone protection in compliance with safety procedures at all job sites. Operate and maintain transportation equipment, tools, and working equipment is in proper condition, and reports deficiencies or repairs needed. Ensure all tools, equipment, and unused materials are returned and replaced on vehicles after the completion of a job or the day's work. Must be able to report to work within 20 minutes of being notified that services are required when performing stand-by duties or when additional services are required. Responsible for compliance with the Cooperative's safety rules, safety policies, and safety procedures. Provide training and supervision to other members of the line crew, especially in the absence of the Foreman and Lead Lineman. Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance. In addition to these responsibilities, may be assigned by the District Operations Supervisor to perform other duties. Education: High school diploma, or equivalent. Successful completion of DOL program requirements for Journeyman Lineman. Completion of advanced lineman training/lineman certification required. Must possess or be able to obtain CPR and First Aid certification. Experience: Eight to ten years' experience in electric utility distribution operations, including distribution system construction and maintenance is required. Job Knowledge: Must possess knowledge of RUS line specifications, National Electric Code, National Electric Safety Code, and OSHA Rules and Regulations. Prior experience in basic technical utility knowledge is required. Abilities and Skills: Must possess a valid Texas CDL (class A) license with a good driving record. Must be able to communicate in English, both in written and oral forms with the general public and co-workers. Must be able to climb poles of all types and perform required jobs while on poles. Must possess skills and abilities to perform all required jobs with the installation of materials, apparatus, and equipment used in the construction and maintenance of electric distribution lines. Must be able to operate equipment including bucket trucks, digger trucks, and other related equipment. Must be able to proficiently operate all electronic devices issued to employees including, but not limited to iPads and computers. Must be able to lift 50 pounds or more, as necessary without external assistance from personnel or mechanical aids. Must have sight to be able to see working conditions from a safety standpoint. Must be able to effectively utilize a two-way radio to communicate duties and location. Must be able to walk distances up to one mile in uneven terrain. Working Environment: This job operates in a field environment. This role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and lifting in awkward positions. The majority of the work schedule will be performed traveling to and working at various field locations within the service territory each day.
