Operates a variety of electronic equipment to maintain contact with Sheriff and Police personnel, multiple fire units and EMS personnel, and other law enforcement units; dispatches officers to answer requests for assistance. Interviews callers to determine nature of concern and provides information about the situation as it develops and/or background information from the DCI; provides pre-arrival medical instruction using EMD system. Operates terminal connected with the DCI to obtain drivers history, vehicle registration data and criminal record information; checks warrants; runs vehicle inquiries and driver license history checks for law enforcement agencies. Maintains communications logs and reports including the nature of calls, actions taken and the times involved. Monitor public and private fire and security alarm systems; activates monitors to dispatch volunteer agencies; transfers appropriate calls to state patrol. Monitors activities of law enforcement officers on patrol and makes radio contact to insure safety; takes and transmits personal and departmental messages. Takes and transmits after-hours calls for utilities, maintenance, social services, and other County services. Works in the communications center to receive calls during weather and other emergencies such as hurricanes, ice and snow; informs emergency response personnel, local hospitals, rest homes, nursing homes and County departments of severe weather warnings provided by National Weather Service and other agencies. NATURE OF WORK An employee in this class performs a moderate to large variety of duties in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Tests malfunctioning electrical systems and equipment. Performs minor repairs to electrical systems and equipment. Installs, maintains, alters, and repairs wiring, electrical devices, machinery and equipment. Measures, cuts, threads, bends, assembles, and installs conduit. Draws wire through conduit and completes necessary splicing, soldering, and application of friction tape. Installs and connects equipment to wiring systems. Replaces damaged or broken wires and cables. Replaces faulty electrical components. Troubleshoots control systems. Performs other related work as required. MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Graduation from high school, preferably supplemented by vocational training in electrical field. Considerable experience in performing most of the tasks associated with electrical work. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Possession of valid class A CDL driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina. The Maintenance Mechanic-Electrical Technician will install and repair electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical components of machinery and equipment by performing the following duties. Minimum Qualifications * High school diploma and Vocational diploma; or High School diploma and apprentice experience. * Note: Degrees and hours must be from a college accredited by a US Department of Education accepted accrediting agency such as SACSCOC. * * Three years commercial electrical experience. * Valid Driver's License with a driving record in good standing.
