THE OPPORTUNITY: Patternmaker REPORTS TO: Technical Design LOCATION: LA - On-site Headquartered in Los Angeles, CA with an office in New York, NY, Birdy Grey supports remote work for eligible roles. This role requires working from our DTLA office 5 days a week.. This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship. #L Birdy Grey is building a dedicated LA-based sample room focused on the design and development of fashion-forward bridesmaid styles. We are seeking an experienced Patternmaker to join our growing LA-based Sample Room team at Birdy Grey. This role is critical in bringing our creative vision to life-translating sketches and tech packs into accurate physical and digital patterns that will be prototyped, refined, and ultimately approved for production by our global supplier network. SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES Create precise patterns (both physical and digital) based on designer sketches and tech packs for fashion-forward bridesmaid dress styles. Collaborate closely with our Designer, Technical Designer, Merchants, and Chief Creative Officer to iterate on prototypes based on fit, design intent, and feedback. Own and execute multiple rounds of pattern revisions until the final prototype is approved. Work directly with our LA-based sample maker/sewer to ensure successful execution of prototypes. Once a prototype is approved, prepare and hand off final physical and digital patterns to our internal China team for production with overseas suppliers. Ensure accurate documentation and pattern archiving for all developed styles. THE RIGHT CANDIDATE: QUALIFICATIONS & PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES EDUCATION: Associate's Degree Required EXPERIENCE / REQUIREMENTS: 5-10 years of experience as a Patternmaker, ideally in formalwear, eveningwear, or bridal. Expertise in both physical (paper) and digital patternmaking methods. Strong understanding of drape, fit, construction, and finishing specific to woven formalwear and delicate fabrics. Ability to balance speed with precision while iterating on multiple styles simultaneously. Excellent communication and collaboration skills across design, tech, and production teams. Highly detail-oriented with a strong sense of ownership and pride in craftsmanship. Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment with evolving processes. Nice to have: Proficiency in CLO 3D or other 3D patternmaking software is a plus. Experience using CLO to visualize patterns and facilitate remote collaboration with global teams is highly desirable. Fluent in English and Mandarin, to facilitate communication with our China-based sample room team. Journeyman Machinist What We Expect of You as a Journeyman Machinist As a Journeyman Machinist, you'll apply your technical skill, precision, and craftsmanship to produce and repair critical components used in our packaging machinery. You'll work independently and collaboratively to set up and operate manual machines, fabricate and modify parts, and ensure the highest levels of quality and accuracy. What You'll Do Set up and operate a variety of manual machine tools, including Drill Presses, Bridgeport and Knee Mills, Metal Lathes, metal fabrication and sheet metal machinery, and related equipment. Fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools and components, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, and machining procedures. Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and specifications to determine machining requirements. Use precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauges) to verify part accuracy and adherence to tolerances. Troubleshoot and repair mechanical components as needed. Perform rework operations on nonconforming parts and support quality assurance initiatives. Conduct routine maintenance on machines and tools to ensure optimal performance. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while following all safety standards and PPE requirements. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production goals and schedules.
