The Faculty Research Assistant will support the Principal Investigator's research program in the Department of Microbiology, College of Science at Oregon State University. This position is essential to maintaining ongoing research investigating parasitic, bacterial, and viral diseases affecting salmonids and zebrafish-work critical to understanding aquatic animal health in the Pacific Northwest and supporting collaborative partnerships with tribal nations and natural resource agencies. The FRA will ensure the daily operations of zebrafish vivarium and salmonid research populations, conduct molecular diagnostics and pathogen characterization, participate in field sample collection, and contribute to scientific communication through manuscripts and presentations. The Department of Microbiology, staffed by about 20 faculty and five instructors, trains about one thousand undergraduate majors and 25 graduate students. Research interests encompass studies on the biology and pathogenesis of viruses and bacteria, microbial ecology and evolution, and environmental microbiology. Key Responsibilities
Animal Care & Husbandry (50%)
Maintain zebrafish vivarium operations including daily health monitoring, water quality management, breeding colony maintenance, and system troubleshooting. Maintain salmonid populations for transmission experiments and research studies. Monitor fish health and welfare across species in compliance with OSU IACUC and BioSafety requirements. Oversee care across multiple facilities including zebrafish vivarium, Fish Disease Hall, Aquatic Animal Health Laboratory, and associated facilities. Coordinate with Facilities staff regarding system maintenance, repairs, and infrastructure needs. Respond to emergency situations including equipment failures, water system issues, power outages, and flooding events. Order and manage laboratory supplies, feed, and materials.
Research & Laboratory Operations (30%)
Perform necropsies on fish and isolate pathogens, including those that may infect humans. Characterize parasitic, bacterial, and viral pathogens using phenotypic and molecular methods ( PCR , qPCR, histology, microscopy, cell culture). Participate in field sample collection at off-site locations including hatcheries, rivers, tribal facilities, and public collection sites. Process and archive biological samples according to laboratory protocols. Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment including thermocyclers, microscopes, and aquatic system components. Analyze molecular and epidemiological data using appropriate software and bioinformatics tools. Assist with experimental design, data collection, and statistical analysis. Maintain accurate records and contribute to research documentation. Assist with IACUC protocol maintenance, amendments, and compliance documentation.
Supervision & Training (10%)
Provide guidance and training to undergraduate and graduate students working with fish. Train personnel on proper equipment use and maintenance. Ensure lab safety compliance and proper technique among trainees. Coordinate student schedules for animal care coverage.
Scientific Communication & Scholarship (10%)
Contribute to manuscript development including data visualization, methods documentation, and literature review. Assist with manuscript preparation, editing, and revision processes. Support preparation of grant applications, progress reports, and research presentations. Contribute to research presentations and posters for scientific conferences and community meetings. Maintain organized datasets and documentation to facilitate publication. Travel to conferences and workshops for continued professional development and dissemination of research findings.
What You Will Need
+ Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a discipline appropriate to the field in which research is being conducted (e.g., biology, microbiology, fisheries, aquaculture, veterinary science, or related fields)

Working Conditions / Work Schedule
Work is performed in multiple laboratory and aquatic facility environments including wet labs, zebrafish vivarium, Fish Disease Hall, and Aquatic Animal Health Laboratory. The position involves regular exposure to water, fish pathogens (including those that may infect humans), biological samples, and laboratory chemicals. Work requires BSL -2 compliance and adherence to biosafety protocols.
Physical requirements include lifting supplies and equipment (up to 50 lbs), standing for extended periods during animal care and laboratory procedures, repetitive motions associated with fish husbandry and laboratory work, and ability to respond quickly to emergency situations. Work involves exposure to wet conditions, temperature variations in aquatic facilities, and occasional work outdoors during field sample collection at hatcheries, rivers, and tribal facilities.
This position requires on-call availability for emergency response during evenings, weekends, and holidays to address critical situations such as equipment failures, flooding, power outages, or other events that threaten animal welfare. Financial Strategic Services is seeking a Financial Services Manager. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE ), 12-month, professional faculty position.

The position reports to the Financial Strategic Partner, Associate Director of Financial Strategic Services or Director of Financial Strategic Services and collaborates with FSMs serving other units, the Division of Finance and Administration, and other university partners.
The position analyzes and advises college and units of the budgetary impacts of proposed programmatic or policy changes. The FSM provides revenue modeling and financial projections based on enrollment trends, tuition rate changes, grant activity, fundraising and other revenue sources. This position identifies gaps and provides or facilitates appropriate financial training for FSS team members, college or unit leadership and other college or unit administrators. The FSM works independently but uses collaborative decision making, available metrics, and performance indicators to support the college and/or unit financial and business requirements.

Key Responsibilities
30% Financial Analysis and Consultation
Closely monitor the financial position of college or unit, identify and address issues as appropriate to safeguard university resources in an ethical and transparent manner.
Clearly communicate current financial position with the FSP and/or college or unit to ensure effective decision making, proper stewardship of resources, and appropriate compliance and risk management.
Collaborate with FSP , stakeholders, and business partners to maximize college or unit support and drive operational changes. Works closely with business partners in University Human Resources; Budget and Resource Planning; Research Office; Office of Audit, Risk and Compliance; Procurement, Contracts and Materials Management ( PCMM ); Controller's Unit; other offices in the Division of Finance and Administration; and Ag Research and OSU Foundations.
Promote compliance with university fiscal policies and applicable legal rules and regulations.
Advise FSP and/or college or unit regarding necessary policy compliance and audit requirements as they pertain to the college or unit. Develop, assess, and monitor appropriate internal controls to protect college or unit and university resources and reputation. Coordinate college or unit response to financial audits.
Optimize all college or unit resources, which may be complex and come from numerous sources, by understanding the relationships between all funding sources.
Analyze financial impact of proposed business decisions and advise FSP and/or college or unite of possible alternatives. Requires thorough understanding and knowledge of college or unit and university financial systems, business practices and policies. Create multiple financial scenarios when necessary to model proposed actions and highlight impact of decisions.
Create clear financial presentation documents and present as necessary to FSP and/or college or unit and other audiences. Requires ability to understand audience financial aptitude and tailor presentations appropriately.
Coordinate preparation of financial reports and narratives for college accreditation requirements and assist as necessary during site visits, including interviews with accreditation team.
Interpret complex financial data requests to facilitate clear understanding of requirements and coordinate responses as appropriate. Includes requests from both university and external partners and stakeholders.
Advocate as appropriate for the college or unit when OSU policy, business process, or system limitations prevent or hamper mission critical activities. Escalate matters when called for to support college or unit operations. Coordinate with the Division of Finance and Administration to ensure effective communication.
Coordinate as appropriate with college and unit administrative support positions to share relevant information regarding policy and procedure changes and upcoming deadlines, highlighting any implications to college or unit resources or operations. Requires detailed knowledge of college or unit operations and the ability to act as a change agent when necessary.
Develop on-boarding process as necessary for new college or unit administrators and staff in regard to financial services and activities. Requires the ability to understand financial aptitude of new leaders and to tailor materials appropriately.
Seek new opportunities for problem solving and enhancing strategic financial activity through collaboration with other FSMs and DFA units so as to maximize efficiency and leverage collective knowledge to ensure high quality and continuous improvement.
15% Budget Administration and Financial Planning
Provide consultative services and expertise to guide the college or unit as needed through the annual budget process. Deploy resources as appropriate to assist in all phases of the budget cycle; preparation, approval, execution, and monitoring.
Advise leadership regarding alignment between the budget process and current college, unit, and university strategic priorities. Requires a detailed understanding of college or unit operations, regular communication with college or unit personnel, and strong professional relationships to ensure confidential and sensitive information is shared appropriately.
Collaborate with FSP and/or college or unit and university business partners to ensure budgets are created and ready to approve and load into university systems at the scheduled time. Review data for accuracy and ensure all college or unit personnel with budgetary authority are aware of the unit's allocated budget.
Be aware of variances between budget and expense and work with the FSP and/or the college or unit to ensure the appropriate administrators and leaders are informed of material variances.
Inform the FSP and/or college or unit regularly of any deviations from the approved financial plan. Requires a detailed understanding of college or operations, including pending personnel changes, hiring plans, and strategic priorities. Also requires an awareness of financial commitments that are not encumbered in Banner and a thorough understanding of the university budgeting process to accurately project the many budget adjustments that occur mid-cycle and at year-end-close.
Verify approval, execution and accuracy of financial agreements between colleges or units. This may include MOUs, budget adjustments/settle-ups and other financial transactions.
Collaborate with business partners in the preparation of periodic budget projections for the Office of Budget and Resource Planning and for other ad hoc projection requests, including those from college accrediting agencies.
Maximize the value of college or unit and university resources by ensuring funds are used in an optimal manner, with proper consideration to the unique requirements for use of each funding source. Work strategically and collaborate with university business partners as appropriate to ensure no resources expire unnecessarily before use. Requires coordination with fund managers in other units and organizations. (E&G, OSUF , self support etc)
Prepare and present periodic budget updates as needed for a variety of college, unit, and university audiences. These may include the FSP , college or unit leadership, school and department faculty, program areas, and others.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
The wildlife participants will assist with monitoring and trapping sensitive wildlife species including the northwestern pond turtle, Western Purple Martin, Bald Eagle nest surveys, and other species as needed. Most of the work will be turtle nest searching and visual encounter surveys, removal of non-native turtles, collecting biological data in the field, data entry. The participants may assist with trapping northwestern pond turtles and conducting radio telemetry for turtles. Work is focused in and around lakes in the southern Willamette Valley.

The selected participants will be responsible for finding their own housing. No government housing is available.
Duty location: The interns will report daily to the USACE Fern Ridge Lake office, 26275 Clear Lake Rd, Junction City, OR 97448. The intern must own a vehicle to reliably get to and from the field office. Field sites may include any of the 13 reservoirs in the Willamette Valley Project, and the position may occasionally require the intern to use her/his personal vehicle (miles reimbursable) during work hours.
Terms of Employment TWO selected intern will serve a 32-week term of service starting approximately April 06, 2026. The participants will work full-time for the entire 32-weeks from April 06 to November 13, 2026.
Compensation
$700 weekly Living Allowance
$1,300 duty travel reimbursement
One-time round-trip UP TO $650 relocation travel reimbursement for non-local candidates (not available for candidates who do not relocate)
The living allowance is taxable. Service eligibility is contingent upon the results of a Federal government background check and driving record check.

Job Summary
The PAC Recreational SCUBA Program within the Physical Activities Course ( PAC ) Program, a part of the School of Exercise, Sport, and Health Sciences, in the College of Health at Oregon State University is seeking SCUBA Certification Evaluators. This is a part-time, (varied FTE ), hourly, 12-month, professional faculty position.
Applications submitted to this recruitment pool are reviewed on an as needed basis. Qualified candidates will be contacted when positions become available throughout the academic year. Some of these appointments may be reviewed for renewal or transition to an instructional position on an annual basis at the discretion of the program Director. Scheduling for each term is determined in February for Spring term, November for Winter term, and beginning in May for Fall term.
This position supports the SCUBA courses offered through the PAC Recreational SCUBA Programs within the Physical Activity Course ( PAC ) program at Oregon State University by guiding and evaluating students throughout the process of achieving certification through the Professional Association of Diving Instructors ( PADI ). Courses currently offered include Open Water ( PAC 242), Advanced Open Water ( PAC 243), Rescue Diver ( PAC 244), specialties ( PAC 245), and Divemaster I & II ( PAC 299).
Incumbent will provide additional supervision and/or run pool and open water sessions independently in SCUBA classes and make sure PADI ratio standards are met so students are safe in the learning environment.
The primary mission of the PAC Program is to provide all Oregon State University students with the knowledge and experience to make sound decisions regarding present and future physically active lifestyles. The intent of the PAC Program is to provide quality instruction in safe, adequately equipped facilities and to create a positive, enjoyable learning environment.
The SCUBA Certification Evaluator position will serve as an integral member of the PAC Program team, where each instructor plays a specific role to the larger organization. Recognizing individual interests and abilities, the program provides courses covering a wide variety of physical activities. We make an effort to address contemporary trends and student interests. Courses offered through the PAC Program may include but are not limited to classes in the Activity Areas of: Aquatics, Artistic & Social dance, Aerobics & Fitness Development, Martial arts, Mind/body, Outdoor Recreation, Resistance training, Sports, Yoga and Games.

Key Responsibilities
80% - Evaluation
- Work directly with students (small group and individually, including minors) in pool sessions and open water dives as they practice techniques, skills, and equipment usage which are necessary for certification.
- Assist or independently run dive groups of 20+ students with assistance from additional staff and/or volunteers in pool sessions and open water dives.
- Modify level and amount of assistance provided to students based on each student's individual skill and comfort level.
- Evaluate each student's skills to determine when it is appropriate to build on techniques and continue with the next step in the established curriculum. Work with students in a confined water and open water environment.
- Enforce all safety rules at the pool and open water sites.
- Guide students with proper dive planning for open water dives.
- Drive/transport students and/or equipment to open water sites.
20% - Equipment
- Provide general equipment care. Service equipment if incumbent possesses the necessary factory equipment certification.
- Ensure equipment and other materials are set up prior to course meetings.
- Wash, sanitize, and store equipment after use.
- Help with inventory check in and out.
- Depending on course level, demonstrate equipment function, use, and assist students with using equipment.
What You Will Need
Current, valid PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor certification, professional liability insurance, and current good standing with PADI .
Current, valid Adult CPR and AED Essentials and First Aid and oxygen provider (the certifications must be completed prior to the start of classes; more advanced training will be accepted).
Minimum of 150 dives. 20 dives must be in a professional supervisory position and 4 of the 20 dives must be with the OSU SCUBA program, may be earned before start date as an OSU volunteer.
Ability to manage small groups (6 students alone) and with assist with large groups of students (up to 10).
Ability to be flexible with students' needs.
Ability to cooperate with other SCUBA instructional team members and volunteer staff, possibly in high stress environments.
Experience with diving in night conditions (at least 10) and Deep dives (at least 10).
Able to safely operate full size trucks loaded with SCUBA equipment or operate 12 passenger vans with students.
Current, valid DAN accident insurance.
Ability to provide own SCUBA equipment necessary for OSU's dive environment.

This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.
