Responsibilities ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Communicate (via telephone, email, and fax) with both internal and external customers on a wide range of issues including, but not limited to, freight charges, pick ups, tracing, tracking, and POD's. Data entry, consisting of, but not limited to, scanning bills, P&D entry, fuel mileage, SDC'ing of freight bills, and payroll. Process paperwork and invoices, as well as, monitor checks and cash for accounts receivable and accounts payable. Help process and monitor paperwork and Haz-mat information for loads departing or arriving at the facility OTHER DUTIES: Interact with and support supervisors, drivers, and dock workers Assist in monitoring and compliance in all areas including, but not limited to, new hires, safety, P&D, OS&D, payroll, and accounts payable. Qualifications MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Command of the English language to communicate effectively with internal and external customers Must possess excellent interpersonal communication skills Previous experience in transportation industry and/or customer service is a plus Experience with Haz-mat or worker's compensation is also very helpful.     Responsive recruiter Applied Optimization (AO) Job Title: Information Technology (IT) Engineer Intern Reports to: Principal Scientist FLSA Status: Part-Time (Non-Exempt) Department: IT To assist in administrating, maintaining, and enhancing all aspects of the information (IT) technology utilized at AO, with minimal intrusion to other co-workers Essential Functions: Technically set-up and support information systems within the organization and interface with offsite vendors Maintain all software and hardware currently used within the company and possess the ability to quickly assimilate and understand other software as needed Maintain an orderly and accessible inventory of hardware and software as well as track licenses and renewal updates as needed Diagnose and repair computer hardware problems, including but not limited to PC's, printers, laptops, smartphones, and other electronic devices Develop and follow protocols for purchase of hardware and software to maintain rigorous compliance with security requirements Participate in training sessions and lead training sessions as needed to acquaint others with new and/or current software and hardware Plan for the future IT needs of the company, including technologies, systems, policies and procedures Ensure accuracy and follow documentation procedures for all work; maintain notebook of daily activities and provide weekly report of work Other duties as assigned Required Qualifications: Undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in a program related to the field of information technology with a superior academic record Proficient in Microsoft Windows-related platform technical support Working knowledge of computer networks Ability to travel to customer sites for technical support if needed Attention to detail and effective time and schedule management skills Effective organizing, planning, debugging, and problem-solving skills Ability to adapt within a small team to support evolving customer requirements Ability to execute instructions and communication in written, oral, and diagram form Demonstrated strong writing, fact-gathering, and analytical skills Strong ethical morale Basic computer and software skills including but not necessarily limited to Microsoft Office products (e.g., Outlook, Word, and Power Point) Preferred Qualifications: College sophomore or junior with a cumulative GPA (Grade Point Average) of 3.5 or higher One-year of related experience and/or training Experience with Linux technical support Familiarity of software development lifecycles and revision control practices Citizenship/Security Clearance Requirements: U.S. Citizen or Green Card Holder May be required to obtain and maintain US Government Security Clearance About Our Internships: Hours: The internship is a part-time, year-round position that requires a minimum of sixteen hours per week of work. The hours are flexible and they can change from one semester to another based on the student's class schedule. Job Duties: Students may be involved in one or many of the following: * Receives and installs PC hardware and peripheral components such as monitors, keyboards, printers, and disk drives, etc. * Loads specified PC software packages, such as operating systems, word processing and spreadsheet applications, etc. in accordance with company policies and procedures. * Performs advanced troubleshooting in person and via telephone concerning PC operation; diagnoses system hardware, software and computer problems based on knowledge of system operations; installs, troubleshoots and coordinates repairs of barcode readers. * Dismantles hardware hook-ups, moves hardware to new locations and reconnects hardware to newly installed cabling. * Responsible for the daily operation and function of local/wide area network operations such as setting up new users, installation of hardware, diagnosing and resolving hardware and software problems, ensuring proper file server operation and file backup. * Maintains a personal computer inventory database and telephone equipment database to ensure all personal computer and telephone resources are accounted for; maintains a software library of all SBU-owned personal computer-based software, ensuring compliance with all software licenses and copyright laws. * Responsible for observing all applicable safety requirements and reporting immediately any unsafe practices/conditions. * Carries out special projects as assigned. Basic Qualifications (Required Skill/Experience): * Exposure to entry-level IT issues * Knowledge of currently employed operating systems. * Familiar with basic electronics. * Working knowledge of PC's in the current company operating system environment. * Regularly required to sit for prolonged periods. * Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, push, pull, crouch, crawl and/or climb for prolonged periods.
