Junior test engineer job description

ASRC Federal NetCentric is a premier provider of systems engineering, software engineering, system integration and product support services for Army C5ISR mission-critical systems.
We are seeking a
Junior Test Engineer
to support Project Manager, Positioning Navigation and Timing (PM PNT) Systems Engineering and Technical Assistance (SETA) Support Services by providing administrative, business management, programmatic, contracting, information technology (IT), program management, engineering, logistics, test and evaluation (T E), training, operations, security, technology protection, foreign military sales, and acquisition and strategic planning services.


Roles/Responsibilities:


The Junior Test Engineer will be responsible for performing the following:


Assist in the development of classified and unclassified test programs, plans, and procedures, conduct testing, and evaluate and document the results in briefings and reports for PM PNT products and PNT supported clients and platforms. This testing may include: cybersecurity, hardware and software components, subsystem and system level development, system compatibility, acceptance, functional, integration, full qualification, field, environmental and stress screening, electromagnetic interference, electromagnetic compatibility and TEMPEST. Participate in planning and conducting classified and unclassified test efforts for PM PNT products and PNT supported clients and platforms. Develop, review, comment and staff test documentation. Provide classified and unclassified briefing materials, updates, and attend technical and program reviews. Participate in IPTs and working groups; and provide inputs to IMSs, risks, and budgeting processes. Assist in drafting SOOs, SOWs, PWSs, performance specifications, and associated solicitation documentation and provide technical advice and assistance regarding proposal evaluation. Participate in classified (Secret and Top Secret) meetings, as required.



Requirements



Bachelor's degree in engineering and 3 years of experience in testing for the Department of Defense (DoD) or DoD products OR a master's degree with 1 year of experience in testing for the DoD or DoD products. Current Top Secret clearance.

• Test planning, writing test objectives and scenarios, and test procedures
• Assist with software testing on releases
• Develop test plans / test methodologies
• Help on the ops floor for installs as needed
• Participate in manual test procedures
• Contribute to writing and transitioning to automated testing
• Write reports on troubleshooting issues
• Job is Monday through Friday; need availability to support surges; on-call as needed
  • 40 hours a week; very flexible

Qualifications:

Experience Requirements:

• Bachelors in STEM
• 0-2 years of experience
• Test experience
• Basic understanding of Agile methodologies
• Prior GPS / satellite ground experience
• Experience with RedHat / Solaris
• Basic troubleshooting skills
• ClearCase/ClearQuest
• Git / GitLab

Desired Requirements:

• Python, C++ is a plus

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly sit, walk, stand and climb stairs and steps. May require walking long distance from parking to work station. Occasionally, movement that requires twisting at the neck and/or trunk more than the average person, squatting/ stooping/kneeling, reaching above the head, and forward motion will be required. The employee will continuously be required to repeat the same hand, arm, or finger motion many times. Manual and finger dexterity are essential to this position. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, depth perception and telling differences among colors. The employee must be able to communicate through speech with clients and public. Hearing requirements include conversation in both quiet and noisy environments. Lifting may require floor to waist, waist to shoulder, or shoulder to overhead movement of up to 20 pounds. This position demands tolerance for various levels of mental stress.

SERVICES TO BE PERFORMED
During normal TMNA R&D working hours, consultant will be responsible for helping researchers develop new and innovative concepts, following duties are expected:
Prepare/design test setup and run tests and experiments
Design and develop prototype using available tools including 3D printer.
Analyze data and prepare summary
Help other research and development activity as directed.

Requirements:
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor or Associate degree in Engineering technology or related area
Good grasp of fundamental engineering principles including mechanics of materials, dynamic systems and thermodynamics
1-2 years experience in preparing test set-ups, running experiments, collecting and analyzing data
1-2 years hands on experience in design using CAD tools
Good knowledge of 3D printing and other machine tools
Know-how in developing electrical/electronics would be a plus for different testing
