Position Description: The Medical Assistant for JWCH is a full time position under the direct supervision of the Clinic Administrator or Clinic Designee. Within the regulatory scope of practice, the Medical Assistant will assists in the provision of direct patient care by performing routine patient care procedures and technical supportive functions. Medical Assistants at Wesley Health Care Centers work side by side with our health care teams providing care for patients in a clinical setting. Principal Responsibilities: Performs routine (noninvasive) patient care functions as prescribed by licensed healthcare personnel, following established clinic policies and procedures within the defined scope of education, training, and responsibilities. Collects and records patient data including height, weight, BMI, temperature, pulse, respiration rate, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, and peak flow measurement, according to established policies and procedures. Performs lab tests, including finger sticks, after receiving appropriate training and verification of competency. Administers immunizations and medications per provider's order after a licensed healthcare professional verifies the correct medication and dosage. Performs venipuncture and PPD skin placements, documents the measurement of the PPD skin test, and reports this information directly to the provider or Registered Nurse. Applies and removes bandages and dressings. Provides fluoride varnish treatment to patients ages 1 month to 20 years during wellness or medical visits, following approved protocols to prevent dental caries and support preventive health efforts. Applies principles of aseptic technique and infection control in accordance with established policies and procedures. Provides basic health information and education to patients following established protocols. Prepares examination rooms by ensuring cleanliness and stocking necessary supplies. Accurately documents patient information, medical history, and treatment plans in electronic health record (EHR) systems. Assists with patient education regarding medications, treatments, and follow-up care. Coordinates referrals to specialists and diagnostic testing as needed. Ensures compliance with infection control protocols and maintains a safe, clean environment. Assists with administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, answering phones, and verifying insurance information. Accurately files patients' lab results, X-rays, EKG results, and other documents after provider review and sign-off. Participates in staff meetings, including quality improvement sessions, case conferences, and in-service training. Participates in all safety programs, which may include assignment to an emergency response team. Performs other duties and tasks as required or assigned. Participate in JWCH's customer service training called AIDET on an annual basis. Demonstrate an understanding of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, and Thank You) to apply in patient encounters or team discussions. Utilize the AIDET communication framework to communicate with patients and team members in a manner that reduces patient anxiety, increases patient compliance, and improves clinical outcomes. Requirements: High School Diploma or GED Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant school with a current MA certificate Verification of appropriate hours in approved Medical Assistant course to perform venipuncture Current BLS certificate from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients and healthcare professionals. Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.     Job Description The Medical Assistant facilitates health care service to women and children residing in Residential Treatment Program for Women and Children in South Los Angeles. The Medical Assistant upholds the JWCH mission to improve the health status and wellbeing of under-served segments of the population of Los Angeles County. This position is funded through contracts with Los Angeles County Substance Abuse Prevention and Control (SAPC) Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH). Duties and Responsibilities: Performs routine care functions as prescribed by established policies and procedures within defined scope of education, training and responsibilities Responsible for obtaining Physical Examination and TB compliance for each patient through care coordination Supervises self-administration of medication. Logs medication, maintains Medical Administration Record (MAR), and audits MAR daily in collaboration with licensed nurse. Documents in Nextgen and PCNX, electronic health records (EHR) system. Organizes and maintains medication cabinet and patient medication boxes; to include removing medications left by patients and packaging them for proper disposal. Meets regularly with patients to review medications, appointments and refills needed and refers to the nurse. Assists with Medi-Cal eligibility and coordinates with Enrollment Specialist for out of county transfers Assesses if patient has a medical provider and make change to Wesley Health Centers as appropriate. Performs other duties and tasks as may be required or assigned Requirements: High School Diploma or GED Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant school with a current MA certificate Verification of appropriate hours in approved Medical Assistant course to perform venipuncture Current BLS certificate from the American Heart Association Previous experience in a medical office or healthcare setting, preferably in pediatrics. Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism and empathy. Two years' experience in an ambulatory clinic preferred Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with patients and healthcare professionals. Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
