JOB SUMMARY The Early Head Start Family Engagement Coordinator builds partnerships with families to assist them in identifying their own goals, strengths, needed services and support systems and in developing strategies and timetables for achieving their own goals. Responsible for recruitment, provide support and assistance to families daily, weekly, and monthly as needed, while encouraging them to become self-sufficient, productive citizens in their community ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Family Support and Assistance Complete family strengths/needs (pre- and post-) assessment and facilitate planning goals and objectives to assist Head Start families in meeting their educational, financial, social, health and mental health needs. Classroom Support Assist classroom staff in covering duties such as - meal times, behavior management, parent communication, covering staff during breaks and absences to maintain a safe staff to child ratio and consistency in coverage and care. Child Support and Assistance Schedule health screenings and preventative care appointments at orientation then ensure program compliance with guidance from health staff Literacy Work with parents on improving literacy within the family and personally through continuing education. (In-kind) Recruitment Recruit income/over-income/disability and age eligible children continuously. Liaison for Parent Events Facilitate and oversee parent group meetings once each month EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Required Highschool Diploma or GED Must be able to read, write and speak English and Spanish Within eighteen months of hire must obtain Child & Family Partners certificate available through KCSL At least one year of experience working in an Early Childhood Education Program or working with children and/or families Preferred Associate's Degree in Social Services or related field.
