The Specialized Machinist / Tool Maker works independently and with limited supervision, performing diversified and specialized machining operations. Areas of machine specialization include performing intricate machining operations and setup of conventional or computer numerically controlled machine tools vertical milling machines, lathes and other shop equipment.
Areas of operational specialization include tool and fixture fabrication, production rework and other machining activities. The tooling requirements are developed by interpreting drawings, and engaging design engineers, manufacturing engineers, and other tool makers to determine the best solution.
