What You Will Do: Our Pratt & Whitney Middletown, CT facility has several exciting opportunities for a Production Machinist available on 1st shift. 1st shift hours are Monday through Friday from approximately 6:30 am to 3:30 pm. In this role, you will setup and operate one machine tool or process equipment type and operate more than one unrelated machine tool or process equipment types within an assigned area to produce precision turbine engine parts. You will perform work where methods, procedures and processes are well developed and the required tooling, gaging and fixturing are provided. Under the direction of leader/supervisor, work from verbal and written instructions, operation sheets, drawings and other pertinent information. Following established methods and procedures, use manual or numerically controlled machine tools such as milling, boring, grinding, turning, broaching and shaping machines to achieve the required dimensional specifications. Recognize indications of dull or damaged cutting tools and replace as needed. Perform bench, assembly and surface finishing operations such as deburring, blending, trimming and fitting, using a variety of hand and power tools. Follow prescribed methods and procedures to perform drilling, riveting and bonding operations to assemble various details in producing a finished part. Operate part-marking equipment. Use a variety of media, dry or liquid, to perform cleaning or part preparation and finishing operations. Operate tumbling, grit blast, shot peen, buffing and polishing equipment, wash machines and dip tanks for part surface conditioning. Apply masking as required. Perform applications of anti-gall and polymite coatings utilizing dry bake ovens to cure. Utilize a variety of fixed or variable measuring instruments to check dimensions and part features. Operate OpCert and other computer-based systems to retrieve and store information and records. Perform routine servicing throughout assigned area following specified procedures and written instructions, such as operators' checklist, for upkeep and to assure equipment operates properly. May be required to train for, obtain and maintain licenses, operator permits and certifications within assigned area. This position supports Click Bond's Operations and, under direct supervision, is responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production equipment, secondary equipment, facility equipment and the facility grounds. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform highly diversified mechanical duties to install and maintain production machines and the plant facilities equipment. Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production and perform scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during scheduled machine service. Maintain and rebuild Baird and Waterbury Farrel presses, eyelet machines, and tool room equipment. Utilizing the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), complete assigned repair work orders, preventative maintenance, predictive maintenance, and projects. Fabricate parts out of diverse types of material with or without the assistance of a print or drawing, by using milling machines, lathes, grinders, welders, shears, breaks, torches, presses, and other industrial equipment. Read and interpret key documents including equipment logs, equipment documentation, blueprints, diagrams, and schematics. Handling and utilizing compressed air and other gases safely and effectively. Monitor and maintain spare parts inventory. Perform routine tests and qualifications on equipment and document findings and results. General maintenance duties such as cleaning floors, removing garbage, unclogging drains. Utilize basic plumbing and carpentry skills to perform repairs. Safely and efficiently use Rigging and lifting equipment as needed. Operating a fork-lift as needed. Report immediately all suspicious and hazardous conditions to a supervisor. Understand and observe all safety guidelines and assure quality and safety by complying with all appropriate CB policies and procedures. Assist in maintaining clean, orderly, and hazard-free work areas. Able to work with minimal supervision, be a self-starter and be detail oriented. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate the following competencies: Demonstrate a mature, problem-solving approach when dealing with all levels of site personnel, vendors, and customers as well as the ability to cope with hazardous conditions and heavy time demands. Must have knowledge of basic carpentry, plumbing and rigging skills. Capable of initiating and maintaining a plan of action in response to abnormal situations. Ability to communicate effectively, responsibly, and foster effective working relationships. Must possess mathematical skills including the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals in all units of measure. Basic computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to write and read English. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED required. Completion of craft apprenticeship, or minimum 4 years of equivalent experience required. Computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) experience preferred. Mig & stick welding experience preferred. State of Connecticut Machinist Journeymen's card preferred. Forklift operators certificate preferred. Job Description Responsible to write, create, and test CNC programs. Ensure the produced CNC programs are optimized. Performs adjustments to adhere to established specifications or revisions. Monitor machining times and optimize it from time to time by recommending new machining techniques and methods to refine existing programs to programmers. Maintain the jigs and fixture. Keep machinery and work area in a clean, safe, maintained, and organized. Keep waste low, minimize scrap, use labor efficiently, and account for all parts on jobs. Improve on product through-put via additional operations such as multiple machine operation, deburring, cleaning, etc. whenever possible. Assist in other areas in order to meet the production needs of Essex and its customers. Comply with all PPE and machine guarding as necessary with each job. Areas of machine specialization include performing intricate machining operations and setup of conventional or computer numerically controlled machine tools vertical milling machines, lathes and other shop equipment. Areas of operational specialization include tool and fixture fabrication, production rework and other machining activities. The tooling requirements are developed by interpreting drawings, and engaging design engineers, manufacturing engineers, and other tool makers to determine the best solution. Performs duties to layout, build, and repair a variety of jigs, fixtures, production parts, and similar devices. Use a wide range of calipers, micrometers, verniers, comparators, and other precision measuring instruments to maintain close tolerances. Able to function from work orders, complex drawings, sketches, and sample parts, written and verbal instructions. Have good problem-solving skills and be mechanically inclined. Arrange machining schedules to meet internal customer needs. Troubleshoot existing tooling and repair as required. May occasionally lift or move up to 40 pounds. Use safety standards as a guideline to maintain a clean and orderly work area. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Education/Experience: GED/HS Diploma or Technical School Diploma or Formal Machinist Training required. Minimum of 7+ years of experience in machining of different metals and some plastics. Toolmaker experience required.
