Dr. Sean K. Carlson received his dental degree (DMD) from Harvard University in 1994. He received both his orthodontic specialty training and his Master of Science degree in Oral Biology from the University of California at San Francisco in 1998. In 2015, Dr. Carlson co-launched the first-of-its-kind 'CBCT in Orthodontics' course aimed at educating orthodontists in incorporating 3D imaging and airway-centered treatment into their practices. Currently, Dr. Carlson is an Associate Professor of Orthodontics at the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry and maintains a private practice in Mill Valley, CA. He has received several academic research awards including two AAOF Awards and has published numerous articles in the orthodontic literature. He lectures internationally on a variety of clinical and theoretical subjects. His current lectures focus on Collaborative Treatment Intelligence (CTI) networks, 3D imaging in orthodontics, airway-centered orthodontic treatment, early orthodontic intervention and the treatment of complex dental impactions. Since 1998, Dr. Carlson has served as a Senior Investigator in the Craniofacial Research and Instrumentation Laboratory at the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry. His primary focus is on using computer technology to improve the way we study, teach and practice orthodontics. As a result of his research, he has been at the forefront of 3-D imaging technology since it was first introduced to the orthodontic profession. He installed Marin County’s first i-CAT 3-D CBCT x-ray machine in 2008. Building on his background of cephalometric teaching, in 2011 Dr. Carlson introduced the Visual Craniometric Analysis (VCA), which aims to move orthodontics beyond its traditional 2D cephalometric analysis into 3D imaging. Dr. Carlson developed the VCA to aid all clinicians in designing more appropriate treatment plans and to improve their understanding of treatment success.

Carolyn is a healthcare technology executive who brings over 20 years leadership experience to Aetion. She previously served in senior leadership roles at three of the most important companies driving the transition from fee-for-service to value-based care. As the CEO of Remedy Partners, she led the market-leading company in providing software and services for bundled payment programs. Prior to that, she served as Executive Vice President of Payer Strategy and Operations at Evolent Health, where she led the team responsible for operationalizing value-based payer contracts and provider-led health plans serving populations enrolled in Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial, and Exchange programs. During her four-year tenure, Evolent grew from a start-up with fewer than 50 employees and $8 million in annual revenue to a public company with more than 1,000 employees and $150 million in revenue. Carolyn has also served in several leadership roles within the Medicare and Medicaid businesses of UnitedHealth Group. As Chief Operating Officer of UnitedHealth Group’s Community and State plan in New Jersey, Carolyn drove a financial and cultural turnaround and grew membership to more than 400,000 beneficiaries. Prior to that, she was the Vice President of Medicare Special Needs Plans, serving as the national product lead for health plans tailored to individuals with chronic illnesses and limited incomes. Early in her career Carolyn was a management consultant both in the Strategic Change Group of PricewaterhouseCoopers and in the health and life sciences division of Silverline Technologies. Carolyn earned her undergraduate degree at Harvard University and her MBA in healthcare management from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
