AHDs should be highly visible and available to their RAs. A good rule of thumb is to not be gone more than two weekends a month. All days away must be communicated to Hall Directors. While on campus, AHDs should strive to be approachable, empathetic, and fair so that all RAs feel comfortable seeking them out for questions and guidance. AHDs should make an effort to regularly visit and reach out to RAs.

They will assist RAs with reporting facilities concerns and regularly visit any community spaces in their community (lounges, laundry, bathrooms, etc.) AHDs are expected to develop positive working relationships with Facilities Services employees.
* Accessibility of Digital Information
Procure, create and edit digital content according to NDUS and VCSU digital accessibility standards and policies.
* Policy Enforcement and Liability Management
AHDs will help RAs in confronting and documenting any behaviors that violate the Residence Hall Handbook, Student Code of Conduct, or State/Federal Laws when the RA is not comfortable handling these scenarios independently. 24/7 support is available through the Director for Residence Life, Dean for Student Affairs, Power House and, Valley City Emergency Services.
* Duty Expectations
AHDs should plan on being on-duty one to two weeks per month (depending on the rotation schedule). When on-duty, AHDs will carry the professional staff duty phone 24/7 Monday-Sunday. All calls will be answered and emergencies immediately reported to the appropriate resources. AHDs will be responsible for making sure an RA from each building calls to clock-in each night between 8:45-9:15pm and follow up with any buildings that miss this deadline to make sure on-call responsibilities are being covered in the hall. While on-duty, AHDs must stay within a 30 minute radius of campus during daytime hours (7:00am-9:00pm) and within a 15 minute radius of campus during evening hours (9:00pm-7:00am)
* Time Obligations
An AHD works around 15-20 hours per week. AHDs should only work on-campus jobs, and any second jobs may not conflict with the AHD job or exceed 15 hours per week. AHDs working off-campus jobs must obtain permission in writing. AHDs will arrive approximately two and a half weeks before classes begin in the fall (a half week before RAs arrive) and a few days before classes begin in the spring (one day before the RAs arrive) for training and to prep the halls to open. AHDs will also stay for a day or two after graduation in each semester to help with hall closing. AHDs are asked to contribute to a more limited staffing of the halls over holidays and breaks. Weekly professional staff meetings, weekly residence hall meetings, bi-weekly one-on-ones, and monthly all staff meetings can also be expected.
