Machinist - Manual Mill & Lathe Operator (3-12 hr shifts: Friday to Sunday 6am-6pm) Full-Time | Onsite | Willoughby, OH | KMB METALS- We are a leading architectural metals fabricator specializing in high-precision components for high-end luxury residential projects We're hiring NOW! Key Responsibilities · Set up and operate manual and CNC milling machines, lathes, and related equipment to produce precision parts and assemblies. · Read and interpret complex blueprints, shop drawings, and CAD files. · Machine components from a variety of metals, including stainless steel, brass, bronze, and aluminum. · Work with fabricators and welders to ensure proper fitment and alignment of machined parts within assemblies. · Inspect finished parts to ensure dimensional accuracy and quality standards are met. · Perform basic programming, tool changes, and offset adjustments as required. · Maintain equipment through routine cleaning, calibration, and preventive maintenance. · Collaborate with the engineering and design team to optimize production processes and tolerances. Qualifications · Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a Machinist or Toolmaker in a custom fabrication or job shop environment. · Proficiency with both manual and CNC machines. · Strong understanding of metalworking properties, tolerances, and finishing processes. · Ability to work independently from blueprints and CAD models. · Strong math and measurement skills with precision instruments (micrometers, calipers, indicators, etc.). · Commitment to craftsmanship, safety, and attention to detail. Role and Responsibilities In-depth knowledge of work orders in a production-based environment. Complete understanding of materials and finishes in the woodworking industry. Work with Project Engineer's on a schedule to ensure timelines are set and maintained Produce design drawings (concept), as well as full production drawings Perform self-checks on completed drawings for accuracy. Willing to train and stay up to date on the latest releases of software in the industry. Work efficiently with clients, Architects and General Contractors Ability to make changes and update drawings (redlines) received from the Architect, Designer, or General Contractor. Key Responsibilities · Perform all stages of metal finishing, including grinding, sanding, buffing, and polishing on stainless steel, brass, bronze, and aluminum components. · Achieve high-end surface finishes such as brushed, satin, mirror, or custom patina as specified. · Inspect and prepare fabricated parts prior to finishing to ensure welds and surfaces meet quality standards. · Use polishing tools, compounds, and equipment safely and effectively to produce uniform, defect-free surfaces. · Maintain polishing stations and equipment, ensuring cleanliness and proper condition of all tools and supplies. · Work closely with fabricators and management to meet project-specific aesthetic and quality requirements. · Assist with packaging, protection, and handling of finished components to prevent damage. · Follow all shop safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized workspace. Qualifications · Minimum 2-5 years of experience in metal finishing or polishing for architectural, ornamental, or fabrication work. · Strong knowledge of surface preparation, grit sequencing, and polishing compounds. · Experience with both manual and powered finishing tools (grinders, buffers, orbital sanders, etc.). · Ability to produce consistent, high-quality finishes on various metals. · Keen eye for detail and commitment to craftsmanship. · Ability to read and follow drawings, finish callouts, and written instructions. · Physical ability to stand, lift, and maneuver materials throughout the workday.
