Our Client, a hospital, is looking for someone to join their team as a Teaching Assistant!
**This is an onsite 6-month contract role that takes place in Arlington, MA**
Responsibilities
Support teachers in the implementation of curriculum.
Support teachers, clinicians, and administration in maintaining a safe and nurturing environment.
Provide academic support, accommodations, and modifications as needed.
Engage and facilitate students' transitions between classes and throughout the building.
Supervise and implement coverage activities during staff absences.
Supervise students in all school locations as needed, including during arrival and dismissal.
Provide ongoing social-emotional support to students in the classroom and milieu.
With supervision, design and implement activities/ classes, if needed.
Complete student-related documentation as necessary.
Prepare and maintain the milieu and classrooms for use each day.
Proctor testing sessions, providing IEP-mandated accommodations as required.

Who We Need
We are looking for patient, energetic and passionate Substitute Special Education Teachers for our LaGrange School program located in Poughkeepsie, NY. This is an opportunity to work with an interdisciplinary team, focusing on the educational programming for all school-age children at every level of ability. This position will attend to the daily needs of the students and assist in carrying out classroom activities & lesson plans in the absence of the teacher.
Schedule: As needed Monday- Friday 8:00am-3:00pm, 32.5 hours per week, 48 weeks per year (includes a 6-week summer program)
Pay Range: $27.15 - $32.15 per hour
Responsibilities:
Where appropriate, assesses the developmental level of students using a standardized assessment tool, as well as conduct on-going assessment.
Plans and implements an instructional program which meets the individual age-appropriate educational needs of each child and is based on the designated curriculum of the program. Writes IEP (for special needs children), progress notes and weekly lesson plans. Maintains portfolio of student work.
Organizes and maintains an environment which facilitates children's learning, including use of space, selection of materials, scheduling and behavior management.
Directs classroom support staff in the assessment, planning and carrying out of the educational program, including usage of classroom computers.
Confers with related service staff where appropriate to ensure the implementation of therapy goals (OT, PT and speech) in the classroom.
Develops and maintains positive interpersonal communications with staff and other professionals, maintains positive social-emotional climate which enhances
the performance of staff and self-concept of children.
Works with parents/guardians through informal communications, a daily log, conferences, newsletters, Open House, volunteer opportunities and annual review (for classified students) to share knowledge of children and achieve common goals.
Attends professional/general staff meetings and in-service training within the agency, district and community. Shares knowledge with other teaching staff. (Minimum of 30 hours every 2 years.)
Participates as an active member of the Advisory Board.
Shares knowledge of children with other professionals in order to meet child's educational needs at team meetings and School District CPSE/CSE meetings.
Provides an adequate and safe level of supervision to students and where a question rises as to the level of adequacy seeks guidance from Preschool Director.
Attends all curriculum training sessions and implements the program fully within the classroom, including utilization of assessment tools.
Adhere to agency Code of Legal and Ethical Behavior, which require all employees, consultants, board members, volunteers and affiliates to perform their responsibilities according to ethical and legal standards with honesty, integrity, fairness, good faith and respect for others and the law.
Ensures that employees follow the Code of Ethical and Legal Behavior and conform to the strictest standards of Corporate Compliance and HIPAA, as well as all federal, state, local and municipal laws and regulations.
Will incorporate core concepts of CQL philosophy into day-to-day operation and support methods.
Supports agency vision and mission.
Follows all agency policy and procedures and demonstrates continuous regard to personal safety and safety to others.
Performs other appropriate job-related activities as required by immediate supervisor, program director, or as circumstances warrant.
Will hold employees under their supervision accountable for position standards in their job descriptions
Will complete performance evaluations for all staff under supervision at least annually
Will regularly evaluate internal systems and make recommendations for improvements in efficiency, productivity and accountability.
Requirements
Master's Degree in Special Education with appropriate NYS Teaching Certification,
or
Bachelor's Degree in Special Education or a related field.
Experience with students with disabilities preferred.
Have the ability to push and pull students in wheelchairs, lift, bend, squat, turn in the knees, pivot and grasp with both hands (in order to properly and safely perform the techniques taught in CPR/First Aid, behavior intervention techniques, and lifting and carrying techniques), with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Ensure timely completion of required documentation for both students and supervised staff.
Participate in program development initiatives and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
Professional Development:
Participate in ongoing training and professional development activities.
Stay current on best practices in special education, behavioral intervention, and trauma-informed instruction.
Provide mentorship or training to colleagues when appropriate.
Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Special Education preferred; Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field required.
New York State Certification in Special Education, Literacy, or Students with Disabilities required (or eligibility within one year of hire).
Minimum of one year of teaching experience required; supervisory experience strongly preferred.
Experience working with students with emotional, behavioral, or developmental challenges.
Knowledge of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) practices, or willingness to complete certification training.
Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.

Master Teachers are responsible for the design, planning, and implementation of a quality early childhood education classroom, the implementation of the program's philosophy and curriculum, and the mentoring of assigned classroom peers. Classroom Duties:
Plan, prepare, and implement activities that are appropriate for the age level, skill and social development of the children served
Complete planning activities for an assigned group of children and be a resource for materials
Prepare, implement and ensure lesson plans meets and Individualized Learning Plans (ILP) reflects program philosophy and standards (i.e. Creative Curriculum, Early Learning Foundations, Anti-bias curriculum, etc.), are developmentally and age appropriate (i.e. PITC, RIE, DAP, Desired Results, Performance Standards, etc.).
Complete the developmental screenings (DRDP's) based on enrollment and follow-up schedules
Implement Individual and Family Service Plans (IFSPs). Attend annual or ongoing meetings or share information related to child outcomes for children with IFSPs
Maintain an attractive, clean, creative, functional living and learning environment (which may include cleaning up before and after meals, washing dishes, sweeping/mopping floors, etc.)
Maintain a clean and appealing environment for the children, by picking up toys, cleaning tables, moving equipment (i.e. setting up cots, mats, or setting up and taking down outside equipment)
Maintain ratio per program requirements. Visually supervise the classroom and outdoor area. Anticipate and move quickly to prevent potentially injurious situations that arise during play. Interact, initiate, and encourage the children in all the activities during the day.
Adhere to and participate in the program evaluation of program using the Environment Rating Scale, CLASS, Desired Results, and/or NAEYC accreditation standards.
Be familiar with and adhere to the program's policies, health and safety regulations and emergency procedures and be ready to implement them if necessary.
Inform the Site Supervisor/Manager of any concerns or observations of a child or the environment that may be of interest or importance.
Family Engagement:
Maintain positive relationships with parents through daily verbal contact and/or written notes and document any concerns.
Submit written items for the parent newsletter.
Complete home visits (Early Head Start staff) and parent-teacher conferences
Attend parent meetings as requested by supervisor
Involve parents by recognizing their talents and soliciting their participation.
Relay to other classroom staff and supervisor any information or concerns expressed by parents
Model appropriate adult/child interactions while encouraging and supporting parent/infant attachment.
Administrative:
Supervise Associate Teachers or Sub-Pool Teacher Aides or volunteers in the classroom as assigned by supervisor or in absence of supervisor.
Assist in the training and mentoring of new teaching staff
Assist in using Environment Rating Scales, the Classroom Assessment Scoring System, and other monitoring systems to evaluate programs
Know emergency procedures and be prepared to take responsibility for carrying them out (Fire drills, earthquake, CPR, first aid). Conduct and complete monthly Safety Checklist as requested.
See that food counts, sign-in/sign-out, and attendance reports are kept accurately. Complete record keeping such as childcare food program, attendance, child assessments, and observations (i.e. DRDP's, ERS's, ASQ's, etc.) Observe and record information about children for portfolios or assessment file.
Plan and facilitate regular classroom staff meetings that include discussions of individual children, health and safety practices, activity plans, and general training
Other:
Assume duties of Site Supervisor for assigned periods of time in the absence of the Site Supervisor.
Work cooperatively with child development team in achieving the goals and objectives of the classroom and center.
Be physically, mentally and occupationally capable of performing the following actions without endangering one's own health:
Reach a child 25 feet away within 10 seconds or less
Hear a child call for help from at least 50 feet away
Comprehend and react to dangerous situations involving children without hesitation
Crouch to a child's height and maintain eye contact
Reach children on the highest piece of play equipment
Lift a minimum of 40 pounds
Sit on the floor and/or low chair and interact with children for an extended period of time.
Follow all policies and procedures for handling confidential documentation and confidential information.
Follow all Child Protective Services mandates and requirements, particularly regarding reporting of suspected child abuse.
Follow Community Care Licensing rules and regulations and ensure classroom is in compliance
Adherence to all organization policies, procedures, Parent Handbook and Employee Handbook
Other duties as assigned by supervisor
LIMITS OF AUTHORITY:
Master Teachers must consult with the Site Supervisor to: change classroom activities; discuss concerns with a parent; or change hours of work or shifts. This position must consult with the Site Supervisor regarding any accidents or concerns about children, parents or other staff members.
