Since 1951, the Auxiliary has donated well over $7 million in support of hospital programs and services.
In 1954, a four-story clinical addition was constructed at and a separate three-story building was built to house a school of nursing and provide housing for nursing students.
The NHS took over the building from the navy in 1961 and in the following four years underwent a massive £1.5m (£31m) modernisation.
It reopened in 1965 as Medway Hospital.

In 2008, the Retail Stores at Bayhealth were unveiled and a new Ambulatory Pharmacy and Wound Care Center opened.
In February 2012, the new Integrated Cancer Center and Emergency and Trauma Services began treating patients.
In 2013, CNE chose EPIC as its new ambulatory clinical information technology partner.
In 2014, Bayhealth announced plans to build a state-of-the-art health campus in Milford.
The fight to save the minor injuries unit from closing was won in 2015 thanks to the help of dozens of dogged campaigners.
The battle has been lost with the NHS selling up in 2017 and developers were granted permission for 19 homes and 19 apartments around the site last month .
Opening in 2018, it will include an inpatient hospital, emergency department and vast outpatient services.
In 2019, Bayhealth Milford Memorial closed and patient care began at the Bayhealth Hospital, Sussex Campus.
