1947

But there are two Kenwood companies: the Kenwood Corporation that sells audio products, and Kenwood Limited, a company that’s been modernizing the kitchen since 1947.

Established in 1947, Kenwood has played a leading role in developing products for analogue and digital two-way radio communication technologies and protocols for over 60 years.

1947, Kenneth Wood set up a company, The Kenwood Manufacturing Company in his garage in Woking in the south of London - UK. The first KENWOOD product ever launched was the A100, a toaster with a clever ability to turn over the toast.

1949

In 1949, they made a huge jump in technology-intensive manufacturing by creating the first-ever high-frequency transformer.

1950

The Kenwood Chef was a “kitchen machine” and launched in late 1950 at the Ideal Home Exhibition.

1957

Once again, in 1957, engineers at the company achieved a major innovative breakthrough in research with the development and manufacture of the first FM tuner in Japan.

1957:Kasuga Radio Company changes its name to Trio-Kenwood Corporation.

1960

1960’s Kenwood moved to Havant close to Portsmouth - UK, to have a larger facility to produce more kitchen machines.

1963

Three years later, in 1963, they established their first office overseas in Los Angeles, California.

1968

1968:Listing on the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

1969

In 1969, the company had grown large enough to earn a spot on the Tokyo Stock Exchange where they began selling shares of the company to the public.

1976

In 1976, Trio-Kenwood introduced the first DC amplifier made in Japan and the first amplifier with dual power sources.

1977

In 1977, the company manufactured a 40-watt receiver that sold for less than $300, thus breaking a pricing milestone within the industry.

1979

As the decades passed, Kenwood Limited produced more award winning products including the first electronic speed control and the deluxe food processor, both released in 1979.

1980

1980:Audio products for the car are sold in both America and Japan.

1981

At the same time, Trio-Kenwood engineers were busy developing the world's first Audio/Visual amplifier and system, which had no competition for a full three years after its introduction in 1981.

1982

In 1982, the company introduced and sold its first CD player, and later that year the firm introduced the first solid state HF transceiver that was manufactured with a built-in antenna tuner.

1983

In another major breakthrough in 1983, Trio-Kenwood designed and manufactured the very first car stereo that included 24 presets.

1983:Company introduces its first compact disc player.

1985

In 1985, Trio-Kenwood introduced the first satellite receiving system, which brought significant attention to the company's research in advanced electronics technology.

1985:Satellite receivers are first marketed in the United States.

1986

And so, in 1986, Trio officially renamed the company Kenwood.

1988

In 1988 alone, Kenwood won awards for the best mobile security system, the best car CD player, the best cassette, the best tuner, the best amplifier, and the best equalizer.

1989

1989, Kenwood invested in a factory based in China (Tricom).

1993

1993, Kenwood group expanded by acquiring Waymaster.

In 1993, the company entered into a joint agreement with a government firm located in Shanghai, China, to make compact component systems.

1995

In 1995, Kenwood acquired Ariete, a major Italian designer and manufacturer of upscale consumer appliances such as food processors, irons, and espresso machines.

2001

In 2001, Kenwood joined the De’longhi group, and since that time has focused on being a leader in kitchen appliances.

2001, Kenwood became part of the De’Longhi group strengthening its manufacturing, investment in new products and its international commercial network even further.

2008

More recently, in 2008, Kenwood made a deal to merge with JVC and formed a new holding company known as JVCKenwood.

2009

2009, Kenwood invents the Cooking Chef.

2010

Introduces its first ATEX certified analogue two-way radio. - Kenwood wins the 2010 FCS Gerald David OBE Innovation in Business Radio Award for NEXEDGE®
