The college was incorporated in December, 1824.
Upon his return in 1824, Chase used the funds to purchase eight thousand acres of land in Knox County at Gambier.
Dissatisfied with the original location of the college in Worthington, Chase purchased 8,000 acres (3,200 ha) of land in Knox County (with the Mount Vernon lawyer Henry Curtis), and reached what he would name Gambier Hill on July 24, 1825.
In 1829, the first building of what became known as Kenyon College was completed, making Chase's vision a reality.
In 1831, Chase resigned as as Kenyon's president and as bishop of his diocese.
In 1852, the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity constructed the first fraternity house in the United States at Kenyon.
After opening in 1937, Hayes Grocery was one such space.
The Kenyon Review was the vision of poet Roberta Teale Swartz and her husband, Gordon Keith Chalmers, who became the thirteenth president of Kenyon College in 1937.
Kenyon's English department gained national recognition with the arrival of the poet and critic John Crowe Ransom in 1937 as Professor of Poetry and first editor of The Kenyon Review, a literary journal.

With the appointment of poet Nicole Terez Dutton as editor in 2020, the magazine begins a new era, but remains indebted to the visionaries who helped the Kenyon Review make history.
An investigation into the killing continued in the ensuing decades, and in 2020 a Swedish prosecutor announced that there was “reasonable evidence” to conclude that Stig Engström was the assailant.
