Position: PeriOperative Associate - Shift - Per Diem
Job Description
Under the direction of the Perioperative Leadership and in cooperation of with other Perioperative Associate is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the Perioperative Departments, patient and equipment transportation, and maintenance of assigned supply inventory.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
The PeriOperative Team Associate (PTA) performs tasks following established procedures under close supervision of the PeriOperative Nursing Staff. This position is responsible for providing a full range of patient care and facility related support services.
The PeriOperative Associate also assists and supports departmental supply ordering process, demonstrates ability to work independently with minimum supervision, maintains excellent time management skills, and assists in the efficient flow and safety of the PeriOperative patient.
Essential Functions:
Performs cleaning tasks in patient and non-patient care areas within the perioperative department.
Demonstrate an excellent working knowledge of cleaning and disinfectant techniques and Universal Precautions with ability to apply them in all phases of perioperative assigned responsibilities.
Removes, transports, and disposes of refuse and contaminated material according to perioperative and industry standards.
Prepares surgical suites to include the assembly, cleaning and disassembly of multiple surgical surfaces and equipment ensuring a clean surgical environment.
Monitor, order, stock, and rotate general inventory in the perioperative department within the required timeframes.
Safely transport patients within the hospital as directed; assists in the transfer of patients to and from wheel chairs and beds along with positioning of patients under the direction of clinical staff.
Distributes and collects patient trays.
Assists in patient preparedness activities such as clipping and cast removal.
Maintains effective working relationships with patients, the public and hospital staff.
Transports and/or retrieves perioperative materials/items to and from various locations in the hospital.
Complete required documentation within established timelines.
Maintains real time communication within the unit regarding status of availability and assigned work.
Ensures radio transmitter is operational and utilized when on duty;
Conducts a hand-off report to oncoming shift as indicated;
Attends departmental/hospital in-service orientation, training and other meetings.
Identifies room and facility maintenance needs and reports to appropriate staff.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Employment Standards:

Possess a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) card at time of hire. As a continued condition of employment, employee must maintain RQI Responder certification and competency.

Job Description
Under supervision of a physician, to secure clinical data from patients; provides specified medical services to patients; manages certain patients in the Emergency Department; to be responsible for on going management of selected groups of patients; and to do related work as may be required by the supervising physician within the scope of his/her licensure.

Distinguishing Characteristics:
This specification represents the flexible classification of Healthcare Application Analyst I/II/III. Incumbents are required to have comprehensive hospital/healthcare information systems knowledge, experience and technical ability to implement and support an integrated hospital-based information system in assigned application areas of General Healthcare, Decision Support Systems, Clinical Management and Financial Systems. The II level is distinguished from the I level in that the latter performs more responsible, complex assignments in all phases of HIS applications requiring minimal direction. Essential Functions:

Job Description
Under direct supervision of either a licensed physician or podiatrist, OR a physician assistant, nurse practitioner, or nurse midwife, under the physician's or podiatrist's written instruction, performs routine, basic medical assistant tasks related to the care and treatment of patients in an outpatient clinic setting.

Distinguishing Characteristics:
The Extra Help Medical Assistant I is the entry level of the Medical Assistant flexible classification series. Incumbents in this class perform basic Medical Assistant duties, in an out-patient clinic setting, which requires interaction with patients, patients' families, and members of the public.
Essential Functions:
Escorts patients to exam rooms; prepares for exam and treatment; takes and records vital signs and other necessary measurements; records chief complaint and allergies;
Administers immunizations and medications; and performs office testing and treatments, as ordered by the provider; and collects, prepares, and transports specimens for laboratory testing;
Applies and removes bandages and wound dressings; removes sutures and/or staples from superficial incisions or lacerations;
Assists provider with exams, procedures, and minor surgeries; and acts as chaperon, as needed;
Uses universal blood and body fluid precautions at all times and personal protective equipment as needed;
Applies orthopedic appliances;
Performs ear lavage;
Acts as liaison between provider and patient;
Answers incoming telephone calls, documents all telephone encounters in the medical record;
Prepares and processes necessary forms for referrals and eligibility;
Cleans and disinfects equipment, exam rooms, and storage areas;
Orders supplies and stocks patient care areas;
Submits requisitions for needed maintenance and repairs;
Obtains and organizes patient medical records; including lab, x-ray, referral, and other needed reports;
Performs urine pregnancy testing;

Employment Standards:
High School Diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent and successful completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.

Dependent upon assignment, applicants may be required to pass an extensive background check and be fingerprinted. Felony convictions will be disqualifying and convictions for misdemeanors and traffic offenses will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
A valid California Class “C” Driver's License is required at the time of appointment.

Ability to:
Utilize a variety of techniques, methods, procedures, and equipment utilized in patient care; maintain effective relations with the registered nurse and medical staff; follow instructions as given; work shifts as required; react competently in emergency situations.

All Kern Medical employees are designated “Disaster Service Workers”. In the event of a disaster or civil disorder, all Kern Medical employees are to remain at work or to report to work in a safe and practicable manner.
If position responsibilities require driving a personal vehicle, then possession of a current valid California Driver's License and adherence to the Kern County Hospital Authority Vehicle Use and Driving Standard Policy (ENG-EC-119) is required.
If position responsibilities require driving a vehicle owned, leased or rented by Kern Medical, then possession of a current valid California Driver's license, a signed authorization for Release of Drivers Record Information and adherence to the Kern County Hospital Authority Vehicle Use and Driving Standard Policy (ENG-EC-119) is required.
