    Job Details Kettering Health Main Campus | Kettering | Full-Time | First Shift Responsibilities & Requirements Interpret and abstract data (clinical, demographic, etc) from the electronic medical record for malignant and non-malignant tumors into the network cancer registry database in accordance with guidelines set forth by national standard setters and the cancer reporting legal requirements from the State of Ohio. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Education Associate degree in a healthcare field, required (degree to have included medical terminology, pharmacology, and 2 semesters of human anatomy and physiology (or equivalent) at a minimum) Minimum Work Experience 2-5 years cancer registry experience is preferred, especially in a healthcare system or network cancer registry structure. Required Licenses [Ohio, United States] Cancer Registrar ODS (Oncology Data Specialist) credential by the National Cancer Registrar's Association, required. Reviewing all scheduled outpatient visits prior to service to ensure that all patients have been screened for discounts Ensuring that payer sources and payment arrangements and options have been discussed Assist patients with the completion of Financial Assistance Forms, HCAP Application and Medicaid Applications (if applicable) Review an account for quality and confirmation and can demonstrate the ability to update all aspects of a patient account Demonstrate knowledge of all compliance or legally required registration forms, consents, literature and documents Preferred Qualifications Qualifications: Previous registration or scheduling experience strongly preferred Excellent written and oral communication skills Meets Pre-Screening Protocol and testing for proficiencies in computer skills, phone skills, and customer service knowledge Demonstrated competency in working in teams and ability to effectively communicate with all levels Ability to learn site specific patient processing software. Summary: Responsible for organizing and coordinating all components of referrals, testing and related appointment/scheduling or preauthorization requirements, across providers, departments and partnered divisions within Summa Health. Provides support and communicates necessary information to patients, peers and providers regarding status and processes of referrals and appointments Minimum Qualifications: 1. Formal Education Required: a. High School diploma or equivalent b. Post High-School level coursework in healthcare or related field preferred 2. Experience & Training Required: a. One (1) year of experience in a Medical Office/Registration/Billing setting to include: i. Experience with insurance payers, front desk registration duties or related i.e. Medical Assistant, Biller, Registration staff. ii. Experience working with an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system b. Computer experience - proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint preferred 3. Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications: a. Ability to manage conversations with third party vendors and insurance payers, on behalf of the directed patient care, to assist in timely and accurate services b. Ability to solve practical problems, interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form and to work reliably and with professionalism in a high-volume, high-demand medical environment c. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and e-mail. Prefer skills in using referral software, using health plan web sites and familiarity with electronic medical records d. Ability to perform in a team-based environment e. Demonstrate skills in interpersonal communication to effectively interact in person and over the telephone with patients, visitors, physicians, and hospital personnel f. Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team g. Ability to interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding for their needs for self-respect and dignity h. Assumes accountability for demonstrating behaviors consistent with the Summa Health Commitments i. Able to consistently demonstrate excellence in and adherence to the attendance policy, timeliness and reliability j. Follow and implement all policy and procedures up to and including HIPAA and medical record confidentiality 4. Level of Physical Demands: a. Sedentary: Exerts up to ten pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently b. Prolonged sitting.
