Responsibilities & Requirements
The Nursing Professional Development Specialist (NPDS) is a professional nurse who contributes to the learning and ethical practice development of all nursing employees.
Responsibilities of the role include serving as an educator, career coach, mentor and leader within the organization.
The NPDS assists, facilitates and guides the development of nursing employees beginning with initial orientation and continuing throughout the employment of the individual.
The NPDS serves as a resource to leadership for the implementation of education programs, evidenced based practice and outcomes evaluation.
The Nursing Professional Development Specialist systematically enhances the quality and effectiveness of nursing professional development practice.
The delivery of nursing care within the Kettering Health Network reflects the missions, vision, values and philosophies, of the organization and nursing departments.
The Nursing Professional Development Specialist reports to a Nurse Manager or a Nursing Director.
Educational Requirements:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (NLN, ACEN, or CCNE)
Bachelor of Science in Nursing required
Nursing related Master's degree required within four years of hire (must be initiated within one year post hire)
Required Licenses:
(Ohio, United States) RegisteredNurse
Licensed in the state of Ohio as a RegisteredNurse
Certification in specialty area required
BLS required
Minimum Work Experience:
Minimum of five years clinical RN experience
Oncology experience is required
Infusion oncology experience preferred
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred:
Strong intrapersonal skills
Proficient in utilizing computer software
Experience with an electronic learning management system preferred

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Drives to patient's primary location per scheduled visit.
Daily attendance at assigned visit locations.
Documents all aspects of subsequent, discharge, eval/recert/resumption of care visits within 24 hours of visits.
Documents all aspects of start of care visits within 48 hours of visits.
Completes and submits all required documentation within specified company requirements.
Follows plan of care as permitted within the scope of practice for a RegisteredNurse.
Fulfills RN visits in assigned geographic location per patient need within federal and state specifications.
HEALTH QUALIFICATIONS:
Health Requirements: Must be able to meet all physical position requirements. Evidence required of a current negative tuberculin skin test or x-ray or receive TB testing at the date of orientation. Thereafter an annual tuberculin skin test is required, unless the employee has documentation of a previous TB test. Employee must be free of physical/medical conditions, which would limit or restrict their ability to perform the job functions listed below. Employees in this position may be at risk for exposure to bloodborne pathogens.

HOW YOU'LL WORK:

Policies: Complete all clinical documentation following agency protocol and Medicare/Federal guidelines. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team and physicians to ensure optimal care is provided.
Rules and Regulations: Understand and follow agency policies, procedures, rules, and regulations and communicate changes in schedule/availability to schedulers or supervisors.
Operations: Attend in-service training and mandatory agency meetings

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Observe and monitor patient conditions and perform OASIS assessments (If you don't already know this assessment, we will teach you!) to develop an individualized care plan and adjust as needs change.
Administer medication as prescribed by the physician and helps decrease re-hospitalizations by prioritizing visits for high-risk patients.
Manage multi-disciplinary care as applicable while promoting continuity of care with appropriate admissions, transfers, and discharges.
Educate the patient and family on the disease processes using teach back methods to ensure patient and family understanding.
