Position Overview
The Maintenance Technician Specialist provides advanced technical and engineering-level support to plant operations, with a focus on electrical systems, automation, PLC controls, and process optimization. This position plays a key role in maintaining equipment reliability, improving uptime, enhancing safety, and supporting production performance during 3rd shift operations.
Key Responsibilities
Troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, automation, and controls-related issues
Perform Allen-Bradley PLC troubleshooting and programming changes as required
Optimize process control parameters for new and existing equipment
Support preventive and predictive maintenance programs to improve uptime
Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and work instructions
Drive equipment and process improvements focused on safety, efficiency, and cost reduction
Perform capacity studies and analyze equipment performance
Support TPS and continuous improvement initiatives across the plant
Coordinate contractors, vendors, and integrators for maintenance and controls projects
Assist with customer, supplier, and vendor quality investigations
Train and support production and maintenance team members on equipment and control systems
Maintain strong safety compliance, attendance, and documentation standards
Required Qualifications
Associate degree from a technical or trade school, or equivalent hands-on experience
2+ years of experience in industrial maintenance, controls, or automation
Strong hands-on experience with electrical and mechanical systems
Proven experience troubleshooting and programming Allen-Bradley PLCs
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, PLC drawings, and control diagrams
Experience working with maintenance manuals, SOPs, and safety documentation
Strong communication skills with the ability to support and train team members
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
Ability or willingness to obtain certifications for powered industrial equipment (forklifts, lifts, etc.)

Duties
Help
* Plans, organizes, conducts and evaluates discrete, limited elements of a command information program that ensures the free flow of information to Air Force (AF) people and families to help maintain morale, readiness, productivity and retention.
* Involved in programs that help tell the AF story to the public and builds informed public support for the AF by creating mutual acceptance, respect, appreciation, and cooperation between the AF and the community.
* Engaged in limited elements of a media operations program that ensures a free flow of information to the public through the news media.
* Assists higher-level Public Affairs specialists in conducting Public Affairs strategic communication, operational, and resource planning; and performs special assignments in keeping with the formal training plan.

Qualifications

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) Requirement for General Schedule (GS) Positions: Applicants must have served at least 52 weeks at the GS-05, or GS-07 or higher grade (or equivalent in an alternate pay system) within the Federal Civil Service to be considered for referral. Any individual who was awarded a degree by an institution of higher education from a PUBLIC or other non-profit institution not more than two years before the date of appointment meets the basic eligibility requirement to apply for the DHA Recent Graduates Program;
