In the mid-1800's, Massachusetts started the first reform school in the nation for troubled youth.
As the 19th century brought various developments and iterations on Barron’s and Bramah’s locks, in 1848 Linus Yale, Sr. patented a pin tumbler lock which was an adaptation of the very first locks used by ancient Egyptians.
1925 The first Key Club meets at Sacramento High School in California.
1939 Florida association forms, becoming the first Key Club district.
1943 Key Club movement achieves “International” designation.
1946 In May, the first issue of the Keynoter magazine is published, and in December, the first Key Club Week is observed.
1967 The first Key Club outside the United States and Canada is chartered in Nassau, Bahamas.
Key, a tax-exempt charity, was founded in 1974 in response to Massachusetts' closing its so called "training schools" for juveniles.
Our first program in 1974, an intensive home-based model, was called Outreach Services which soon added a component called, Tracking.
Key Energy Services, Inc. was founded in 1977 and is headquartered in Houston, Texas.

1991 Michelle McMillen of the Missouri-Arkansas District becomes the first female member to be elected Key Club president.
The company was formerly known as Key Energy Group, Inc. and changed its name to Key Energy Services, Inc. in December 1998.
1998 Key Clubs raise more than US$1.2 million for UNICEF to fight iodine deficiency disorders (IDD).
