  • Registered Nurse - Emergency Services - Day/Evening

    Provides evidence-based nursing care to patients and families (including significant others) using the nursing process of assessment, nursing diagnosis, implementation of interventions and evaluation of the patient response to care. Nursing care includes physiological assessment and monitoring, psychosocial assessment and support, patient/family education; maintaining a safe environment conducive to healing and managing transitions of care. The mission of the Emergency Department is to provide a compassionate, exceptional healthcare to patients of all ages. We offer high level of care to patients of all ages with complex medical, surgical and emergency conditions. Part -Time (24 Hours biweekly) Day/Evening Shift Every 3rd weekend Job Description: Under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager, provides professional nursing care at the beginner practitioner level in accordance with the principles of patient and family-centered care based on the nursing process and according to the clinical standards of the hospital. Acts as a primary nurse for patients on the unit. Coordinates care planning with other disciplines. May require specialized skills depending on unit assignment. Duties and Responsibilities Provides and coordinates direct care in accordance with the principles of patient and family-centered care based on the nursing process and according to the clinical standards of the hospital. Acts as a primary nurse for patients on the unit. Synthesizes patient data to develop outcome-driven plans. Safely and independently administers prescribed treatments, medications, and nursing interventions based on assessment and plan of care. Appropriately organizes and prioritizes time based on patient condition and expected workload. Identifies changes in patients' status and acts accordingly. Knows and can activate resources to achieve outcomes for patients. Seeks mentoring and coaching from the CN II & III. Identifies and communicates individualized patient needs for safe handoffs during transitions of care. Collaborates with patient/family in care planning with all disciplines. Appropriately and correctly documents the patient response to interventions and progress toward outcomes. Identifies and documents variances. Appropriately utilizes flow sheets, progress notes, and/or electronic medical record for documentation. Is able to identify system and unit-based nursing sensitive indicators; i.e. falls, pressure ulcers. Identifies own areas of professional growth and development in performance improvement efforts. Recognizes the value of evidence based research as it applies to best practice. Promotes a professional practice environment that supports patient safety and quality through interdisciplinary collaboration, Shared Decision Making activities including peer review. Integrate Shared Decision Making by unit committee membership or by supporting and helping fellow co-workers attend committee meetings and/or work on SDM projects. Serves as positive role model. Delegates aspects of care to other nursing personnel in order to meet patient needs. Helps assistive personnel organize and set priorities for work. Monitors completion of tasks that are assigned or delegated to the patient care team. Promotes collaboration and cooperation among physicians, nursing staff, and other members of the interdisciplinary team. Contributes to effective communications among all team members. Begins to display conflict resolution and negotiation skills to maximize team performance. Common Expectations: Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population. Assesses and interprets patient age specific data and provides appropriate, age specific treatment. Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s). Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required. Maintains Adheres to established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Enhances professional growth and development through advanced/continuing education to maintain up-to-date knowledge, skills, and competencies. Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.     Under the general supervision of the Practice Manager and Medical Director, functions as part of the management team, performing a variety of clinical and administrative duties related to clinical staff management and patient care. Duties may include quality monitoring, patient assessments, direct patient care, triage, administration of IVs, and patient/caregiver/staff education. Provides safe, therapeutic, efficient quality care and services to all patients served. Functions as a member of the health care team at registered nurse level to assist in the planning and implementation of patient care based upon sound nursing judgment, clinical preparation, knowledge, skills and experience. Nursing care is provided in accordance with the provisions of the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing. May be responsible for the clinical functions of more than one practice. Duties and Responsibilities Works with the Practice Manager and Office Manager to ensure adequate staffing levels and skill mix are maintained for all shifts through the development, preparation and maintenance of staffing schedules that meet department/unit needs and apply to variable census conditions. Makes appropriate adjustments/assignments to maximize timely patient care. Looks to staffing needs into the next matrix. Oversees the delivery of patient care. Directs and delegates patient care assignments to staff based on acuteness of patient care needs, staff availability and patient safety. Prioritizes and organizes work. Actively takes part in the performance appraisal process by providing input for staff evaluations. Holds staff accountable for performance standards. Assists with interviewing. Mediates staff conflicts and provides feedback concerning performance, behavior, etc. Collaborates with the Practice Manager on areas of need in the department (e.g., problematic flow issues, equipment and supplies issues, documentation issues, patient satisfaction issues and performance issues). Anticipates and resolves patient/family concerns in a timely manner. Keeps patients and families informed. Protects patient confidentiality by promoting professional staff communications. Serves as a resource and role model/mentor to staff. Assists with ordering or delegating the ordering of medications, supplies, and equipment. Submits maintenance and repair services and prepares related forms. Keeps stock and equipment inventories. Responds to RASMAS Supervision of POCA, PON, and Staff Nurses - includes recruitment, orientation, ongoing performance evaluations, retention, and corrective action in collaboration with Practice Manager. Coordinates and ensures implementation of onboarding and orientation of new employees. Coordinates continuing education of clinical staff and assures clinical competencies are met, documented, and maintained. Educates nursing and medical assistant team on new clinical policies and procedures. Ensures high level of clinical excellence of new policies and procedures are maintained. Ensures an efficient day-to-day clinical workflow within the practices. Including timely rooming of all patients, ensure appropriate triage of patients, and managing number of rooms utilized. Oversight of advanced clinical programs specific to the department. Maintain appropriate certifications required. Follows recommended processes to appropriately manage and document patient concerns and quality of care issues including use of Just Culture. Applies lean principles and identifies opportunities for improvement. Monitors and audits staff completion of clinical tasks within the patient electronic record. Ensures timely completion of all tasks. Assumes practice manager role when practice manager or office manager is not present. Prepares and holds regular clinical staff meetings. Enters, assists in investigation, and follows up on SRS events. Participates in daily Safety Huddle Call.     Under general supervision, performs a variety of professional nursing, technical and administrative duties as they relate to the cardiac catheterization lab. Perform scrub, circulate and hemodynamic monitoring duties with cardiac catheterizations using clinical knowledge, technical skills, and professional judgment in accordance with professional and departmental standards and protocols. Provides care, assessment prior, during and post-procedural instruction to patients. Prepares and maintains all pertinent information related to procedures. Duties and Responsibilities Assists Cardiologist in performance of diagnostic invasive procedures. Maintains operational knowledge of Cath Lab equipment according to manufacture's specifications. Assist and performs diagnostic invasive procedures in the Cardiac Cath Lab. Provides care for patients prior, during and after procedures. Scrubs and assists Cardiologist as requested. Responds to patient distress situations and assists with equipment quality control and inventory management. Prepares sterile trays, instruments, supplies and equipment necessary for procedures, and maintains sterile field. Provides all appropriate services to safely and efficiently complete patient's procedures. Maintains knowledge of cardiac concepts and clinical practices. Possesses the knowledge & skills level of basic and complex invasive procedures which may include: Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI), stents, IABP placement and operation and peripheral interventions. Responsible for patient safety in the CCL and must be able to recognize cardiac arrhythmias and respond according to emergency protocols, operate external cardiac pacemaker and defibrillator. Intervenes with appropriate therapy in the event of cardiac emergencies. Maintains, troubleshoots and operates fluoroscopy equipment to ensure operability and safety. Calibrates equipment and performs routine preventive maintenance procedures. Properly handles and processes PACS images to include storage and transfer. Follows radiation safety policies as outlined by the NRC and York Hospital's Radiation Safety Committee. Monitors and records patients' hemodynamic status during procedures. Administers medications during procedures under the direction of a physician. Assumes “off premise” call responsibilities as required to assure complete call coverage. Performs various tests of multiple blood samples obtained through catheterization or other means, from specific areas within the patient's heart or lung to determine the concentration of gases in order to aid in the physician's diagnosis and treatment. Acts as patient educator. Explains procedure and answers questions prior to the procedure. Immobilizes patients as necessary and practices radiation safety procedures. Selects and operates equipment as needed to perform required exams. Prepares written documentation as required by the profession and the department, such as evaluation results, individualized treatment plans, progress reports, and other such reports. Qualifications Minimum Experience: 2 - 3 years Pref Experience Experience in Cath Lab, ED, or ICU Minimum Education: Associate's Degree Minimum Field Of Expertise: Cardiology; EKG and physiologic monitoring; Knowledge of cardiology, electrophysiology, pacemakers, peripheral vascular procedures and related equipment; Fluent in medical terminology Required Certification: Registration and current RN license in PA; Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required. Skills: Experience in electric countershock techniques; Ability to function as a team member; excellent interpersonal skills; Ability to demonstrates the principals of surgical asepsis; Understands cardiovascular pathophysiology; Ability to read a 12 lead EKG; Ability to identify lethal arrhythmias 100% of the time; Ability to identify normal versus abnormal intra cardiac and peripheral pressure waveforms.
