Boys & Girls Club of the Northern Plains, Inc. (BGCNP), a non-profit organization led by a Board of Directors, began as a single club site in 2003. The organization has grown to five units and one Club extension in three South Dakota communities: Brookings, Flandreau, and Yankton with over 3,500 youth members. BGCNP works to carry out their mission: to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens by offering quality programming. Programs are implemented to ensure all youth are in a prime position to be academically successful, practice healthy habits, and portray good leadership skills for a $25 annual membership. The goal is to work primarily on long term sustainability: marketing systems, outreach processes, social media, donor acquisition and retention best practices, building a donor base, public relations, curriculum development, relationships with community groups that can help us find those who need us most, recruiting more families and kids, food program development, finding unmet needs, building a volunteer base. To ensure these projects are a success, VISTAs will need the following skills/characteristics: positivity, self-starter, hardworking, integrity, honesty, passion for the mission, customer service skills and preferably able to talk to a group of people. VISTAs will leave the Club knowing they contributed to the sustainability of a safe, positive place for youth development for years to come and impacting hundreds of youth. Vistas will have a full day of training with our full-time staff every month and opportunities for other trainings throughout their service time. Plans activities and prepares activity area prior to program/event/shift start. (E.g. gets keys, prepares sign in sheets, gathers all equipment and supplies needed, etc.)
