Boys & Girls Club of the Northern Plains, Inc. (BGCNP), a non-profit organization led by a Board of Directors, began as a single club site in 2003. The organization has grown to five units and one Club extension in three South Dakota communities: Brookings, Flandreau, and Yankton with over 3,500 youth members. BGCNP works to carry out their mission: to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens by offering quality programming. Programs are implemented to ensure all youth are in a prime position to be academically successful, practice healthy habits, and portray good leadership skills for a $25 annual membership. The goal is to work primarily on long term sustainability: marketing systems, outreach processes, social media, donor acquisition and retention best practices, building a donor base, public relations, curriculum development, relationships with community groups that can help us find those who need us most, recruiting more families and kids, food program development, finding unmet needs, building a volunteer base. To ensure these projects are a success, VISTAs will need the following skills/characteristics: positivity, self-starter, hardworking, integrity, honesty, passion for the mission, customer service skills and preferably able to talk to a group of people. VISTAs will leave the Club knowing they contributed to the sustainability of a safe, positive place for youth development for years to come and impacting hundreds of youth. Vistas will have a full day of training with our full-time staff every month and opportunities for other trainings throughout their service time. Member Duties : AmeriCorps members will support and articulate the mission and principles of the Boys & Girls Club in all formats (e.g., social media and website). Members will learn the Boys & Girls club day-to-day activities and responsibilities and understand the goals we aim to achieve. The expectation is for the member to create press releases and blog posts for public information. The AmeriCorps member will gain marketing experiences across different avenues creating a steppingstone to a future career.

- The Attendant KidStyles is responsible for organizing and conducting activities in KidStyles, on the Rock Wall or special programs, including camps, parties, rentals, gymnasium activities and holiday events. These programs should be implemented in such a manner so as to be an asset to LifeStyles.

Comprehends center and department rules, regulations and policies and enforces them when applicable, including but not limited to policies on: dependents, member rules, hand-washing and hospital cleanliness procedures, etc.

Maintains all required certifications. Knows the center's Emergency Action Plan for accidents and injuries, missing children, fire/tornado safety, etc. and demonstrates that knowledge during inservices and drills.

Supervises the KidStyles area, rock-climbing wall or special programs ensuring the safety of each participant. Maintains order and discipline by enforcing rules and regulations and using appropriate behavior management techniques.

Interacts with participants, utilizing available resources to plan activities that meet their recreational needs and creates an atmosphere of fun.

Plans activities and prepares activity area prior to program/event/shift start. (E.g. gets keys, prepares sign in sheets, gathers all equipment and supplies needed, etc.)

Performs daily duties including accurate record keeping, monetary transactions, implementation of activities, daily/weekly cleaning duties and care of equipment and supplies.

Follows closing duty procedures ensuring that all equipment and supplies wiped down and/or put away in their proper place, sign in and statistical reports are turned in and that the room is clean and neat for future use.

Promotes the departments programs and services by establishing relationships with children and their families who frequent LifeStyles in order to generate maximum participation in KidStyles, on the Rock Wall and in special programs throughout the facility.
Attends and positively contributes in all mandatory meetings and inservices. Follows system and department policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety. Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department specific competencies and requirements. Maintains applicable certification/licensure. Maintains current Basic Life Support (BLS) and first aid. Other duties as assigned

Education:
High school graduate or the equivalent preferred.

Certifications:
Maintains current Basic Life Support (BLS) and first aid.

Complexity of Work:
Excellent communication skills. Ability to work variable hours necessary. Possess professional attitude and demeanor.

Work Experience:
Coaching playground recreational experience preferred.

Our child care providers interact with the children through play care activities, nurturing, and keeping the children safe through visual and auditory supervision at all times.



Customer Service:

• Provide exceptional customer service at all times exceeding expectations.
• Greet every guest promptly and engage with every child upon entering the Kids Club area.
• Inquire about each child when checking in to ensure the best possible care and safety precautions.
• Provide friendly customer service with a smile and relate to children, members, guests and other staff in a positive manner.

Role Model:

• Conduct oneself as a positive "role model" for children by providing appropriate direction and mentoring of children in their activities, providing positive reinforcement as appropriate, maintaining a clean and professional “family-friendly” appearance, and helping children develop age appropriate skills, abilities, and motivation.

Safety Advocate:

• Responsible for the overall care and well-being of the children in the Kids Club.
• Maintain the safety and security of the children in care and attend to their needs in a nurturing way.
• Ensure the safety of each child in all areas of the facility.

Requirements:

• Prior experience supervising infants, toddlers and youth
• Personable, enthusiastic, optimistic and outgoing personality
• Positive attitude and collaborative team player
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays
• HS Education in progress or Completed; or GED
• CPR certification highly preferred
• Some training or education in childcare desirable
• Patient, compassionate and fun-loving
• Computer proficiency with basic computer applications
• Stable work or school history
• Excellent oral/written communication skills
• Passion for health and fitness
