King Edward's School, Bath company history timeline

1897

Team sport made its appearance with a rugby team formed in 1897, and both cricket and football officially recognised three years later.

1900

King Edward’s had been one of the first schools in the country to form an Officer Training Corps during the Boer War in 1900 with half the school enrolled as members – including the six mentioned above.’

1918

By 1918 there were 225 boys in the School and by this time the curriculum had been extended, a school cap introduced, a school song commissioned, the Cadet Corps established along with its own band and the Old Edwardians’ Association started.

1959

A new site was therefore acquired by the Governors on North Road in 1959.

1986

After girls had first been admitted into the Sixth Form in 1986, the School became fully co-educational eleven years later.

1990

This is the sad and neglected Georgian building in Broad Street that was - for over two hundred years - a bustling school. It was built in 1754 to house King Edward's School and in use through to 1990 when the last of the pupils still based there left to…

2001

2005

In 2005 there were plans to move the 'pre-preparatory' school, located in Weston, Bath, on to the North Road site.

2008

In 2008 the school achieved the best examination results of Bath schools for A level and GCSE examination results.

2012
