Kings Highway Hospital Center Inc company history timeline

1965

The School of Graduate Studies was established as part of the LSU Medical Center in 1965, with degrees offered in the five Basic Science Departments: Anatomy, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Microbiology and Immunology, Pharmacology & Therapeutics and Physiology and Biophysics.

1969

The first class of 32 students began in 1969 at the nearby Veterans Administration Medical Center.

1976

Confederate Memorial became part of the LSU System in 1976 making our School of Medicine the first state school to operate its own teaching hospital in Louisiana.

1977

In 1977, the School of Allied Health Professions was established with the offerings of cardiopulmonary science, speech language pathology and medical technology.

1980

In 1980, King’s Highway Hospital opened its North wing, without an increase in the number of beds.

A group of 11 students constituted the first graduating class in 1980.

1995

1995 - Beth Israel Hospital purchases Kings Highway Hospital for $43 million—becoming part of the Continuum Health Partners.

1996

1996 - An Acute Dialysis Unit, a three-bed inpatient facility, is opened.

1997

In 1997, the Greater Montreal Convention and Tourism Bureau named Kings Highway Hospital as the beneficiary of proceeds for its production of Robert Lepage’s The Seven Streams of the River Ota at the Next Wave Festival of the Brooklyn Academy of Music.

1997 A Kidney Dialysis Unit is opened.

1998

1998 A new emergency room (ER) opens at Kings Highway with 17 treatment slots, nine more than in the previous ER. Hospital receives a $422,000 grant from New York State to educate nurses in ambulatory surgery/care.

2000

The new facility, called the Acute Care Pavilion, was built on what was previously the hospital parking lot, and opened in May 2000.

The first chancellor for the Shreveport campus was appointed in 2000.

2003

EA Conway Medical Center joined the LSU Health Sciences Center in 2003 further expanding patient care and medical educational opportunities in north Louisiana.

2014

2014 - Hospital name is changed to Mount Sinai Beth Israel Brooklyn.

2015

2015 - Hospital name is changed to Mount Sinai Brooklyn.
