Kleinfelder's Redmond, WA office is seeking a creative, highly talented, and collaborative Geotechnical Group Leader.
The successful candidate will be responsible for overall management and delivery of geotechnical services performed through Kleinfelder's Redmond office, involving both internal and external teams. As part of the assigned duties, the Geotechnical Group Leader will be responsible for delivering quality services, managing staff, partnering with our business development team, and collaborating with other Service Lines within the Company. Candidates should possess significant experience in geotechnical engineering and design, construction support, project management, and staff development with integrity and a drive to succeed. The successful candidate will be expected to partner with our Principals and lead the Redmond team in achieving high client service, producing quality work products, be responsive to client needs and questions, meeting deadlines. and creating clear communications with our clients and staff.
Skills / Experience:
Ability to lead, support, and develop highly motivated individuals

Experience in business development, leading efforts to successfully win projects and develop client relationships
Experience supervising engineers and geologists in performing site characterization, foundation recommendations, slope stability, and settlement analyses, etc.
Experience preparing geotechnical reports, drawings, and specifications for foundations and earthwork for a wide range of projects including transportation, water, commercial, etc.
Experience managing project budgets, client relationships, and other project management tasks
Experience preparing and presenting technical materials to clients and technical review boards
Able to proactively troubleshoot and problem-solve with practical, client-focused solutions
Interface with the civil and structural design teams to develop and value-engineer practical, fit-for-use geotechnical engineering solutions
Be able to organize priorities and multi-task effectively
Collaborate with Area leadership in developing annual business plan, project performance reviews, and personnel management.
Possess a thirst to learn and achieve continuous improvement in a team environment
Position Requirements:
Minimum of 10 years of related experience in a consulting engineering firm or related service business to include a minimum of 3 years experience managing, mentoring and leading diverse geotechnical teams / groups
Previous / current experience working on projects in the Pacific Northwest, including Western Washington.
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in California, Oregon, Idaho, or Washington. Candidates licensed outside of Washington must obtain Washington licensure within six (6) months of hire.
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Engineering Geology. Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering strongly desired.
Proven experience in broad aspects of geotechnical engineering
Proven experience of being a trusted advisor to clients of all sizes
Proven experience managing and mentoring geotechnical
Proven experience in hiring engineering or geologic professionals
Proven experience in capturing business development opportunities, preparing proposals, and/or leading technical aspects of large pursuits

In the role of Operations Specialist, we'll count on you to:
* The primary duties include development of facility operations manuals. Manuals are developed in either hard copy or electronic versions. This employee will review contract documents to verify they meet the design intent of the contract documents.
* Provide support for water, wastewater and storm water infrastructure evaluations, condition assessments, process optimization, new facility design reviews, construction management assistance, commissioning, and O&M personnel training.
Other Technical Capabilities
* Perform operability reviews of preliminary designs to ensure that criteria such as working space around equipment, general placement of valves and equipment, worker safety and access to equipment for maintenance are addressed. During design, work with process, electrical and instrumentation engineers to evaluate reliability, redundancy, ease of operation, and life cycle costs of process and equipment alternatives.
* Assist with the development of infrastructure renewal plans. Provide technical expertise in the condition assessment of assets critical to the delivery of water, wastewater, reclaimed water and storm water service.
* Assist with the development of P&IDs and write process control strategies for the efficient operation of treatment plant processes, wastewater lift stations, reclaimed water systems, and water booster pump stations.
* During construction, coordinate manufacturer's field services including equipment training and startup. Review and approve equipment O&M manuals.
* Work with the design team to identify steps to improve the commissioning process and project handover from contractor to owner.
* Develop and provide operator training and assist with component and system testing and commissioning.
* Prepare startup plans, Division 01 Specifications, schedules and procedures and document results in a construction management environment.
* Assist the plant staff with post-startup warranty resolution and with process optimization.
* Prepare and implement condition assessment procedures for all asset types within water, wastewater, and/or storm water systems.
* Evaluate maintenance and operational work practices to determine effectiveness in providing core utility functions. Prepare new work flows, work procedures, training and implementation plans to improve core functions.
* Evaluate water and wastewater utility regulatory requirements and performance. Develop mitigation plans or O&M procedures to improve regulatory compliance.
* Participate and engage technical experts in support of client development and project pursuits.
* Facilitate lessons learned for project delivery, processes, trends, successes, strengths and weaknesses.
* Participate in strategic local, regional, and national marketing pursuits.

Preferred Qualifications:
* Excellent writing ability.

* Associate's degree in a professional, engineering or related field.
* A minimum of five (5) years of experience in water/wastewater field.

* Work aboard boats from ~12-250 feet in length, domestically and internationally.

The location is flexible and can be based out of our Bothell WA (preferred), Nashville, TN, Boston, MA locations and/or home office. Our personnel specialize in the acquisition of bathymetric, topographic, geophysical and oceanographic data and environmental sampling throughout the United States and internationally. Work locations include inland lakes and rivers, ports and harbors and near coastal and offshore sites in support of our public, government and private clients.
We conduct surveying and field investigations for remediation and restoration planning, underwater mapping, engineering evaluations including detailed underwater infrastructure assessments for submarine cables and pipelines, dredging, habitat investigations, oceanographic studies and hydroelectric dam assessments.

Your Role:
* Perform hydrographic and geophysical surveys from planning to delivering data products.
* Setup, operate and troubleshoot surveying system hardware, computers, software, and cabling.
* Setup, operate HYPACK, HYSWEEP, QINSy, POSPac at competent to expert level.
* Setup, operate Leica / Trimble static GNSS and RTK GPS and process and perform QC on the data.
* Setup, operate R2Sonic 2020/2026 multibeam sonar (MBES) at a competent to expert level.
* Collect and process multibeam and/or single beam echosounder data with CARIS, Qimera, Hypack.
* Work aboard boats from 10-250 feet in length, domestically and internationally.
* Perform field topographic, scientific or engineering surveys using GPS and/or Total Station.
* Understand geodesy, survey and tidal datum, establish and recover survey control.
* Develop and follow plans, specifications, SOPs, procedures and promote safe work practices.
* Be self-motivated, responsible, hardworking, ethical, trustworthy and dependable.
* Have strong analytical and communication skills and strong desire to learn and do new things.
* Be able to work both independently and as part of a diverse team.
* Travel for domestic and foreign work, ~30+% of the year, assignments is required.
* Ability to work in the field in inclement weather as well as offshore for weeks at a time is required.
* Physical ability to load/unload equipment (lifting 50 lbs.), walk safely over rugged terrain and up/down ships ladders is required.
* Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
* Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
* Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
* Additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
* A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Geodesy, Geomatics, Oceanography, Marine Geology, with 2 years' direct experience in either Land or Hydrographic Surveying (required).
* An A.S degree or certificate for land or hydrographic survey and 2+ years' experience. (required)
* THSOA / NSPS Hydrographer Certification or PLS License are substitute for above requirements.
* The ideal candidate will have more than 5 years of field experience as a Survey Technician, Oceanographic Technician, Survey Party Chief, or Hydrographic Surveyor.
* Land surveyors are expected to become proficient hydrographic surveyors.
* Competent to expert software experience with some combination of: HYPACK HYSWEEP PosPac CARIS QINSy Qimera Qinertia, Trimble Business Center, RiAcquire RiProcess ArcGIS, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Global Mapper, SURFER MakiaLay SonarWiz is desirable.
* Competent to expert survey equipment experience with some combination of: survey-grade GNSS/GPS receivers, robotic total stations; terrestrial laser scanners, mobile LiDAR, single beam or multibeam echo-sounders (MBES), sidescan sonar, GPS-integrated inertial navigation systems, is required.
* Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.
Desirable Experience and Certifications:
* Experience with geodesy, cartography, CAD/GIS, photogrammetry and chart production is desired.
* Experience working on small boats and large vessels desired but not required.
* Experience working in a consulting, multi-client, fast-paced environment, with changes in daily activities is highly desirable.
* Experience with POS-MV, SBG Equinox, SBP, SSS, USBL, LiDAR, ADCP, ROVs is very beneficial.
* Experience with, sediment samplers and corers, vibrocorers, water samplers, trawls is desired.
* Competency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Surfer, or ArcGIS is highly desired.
* OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations & Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) 40 Hr. certification
* STCW Safety training for at sea emergencies. (Fire, First-Aid, survival at seal)
* First-Aid / CPR (First Responder)
* UAS Remote Pilot (Part 107), Recreational RC electronics, Ardupilot, MavLink, Arduboat, ROS
* Public Land Surveyor, PLS, IHO CAT A or B
* NSPS - THSOA Hydrographer Certification
* TWIC, Merchant Mariners Credential, USGC OUPV, USCG 100T Master, State Boating Card

Compensation:
Salary commensurate with experience.
Salary Range: $30.00 - $45.00 hour.
Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience and demonstrated work experience in the above role; skills, certifications, and competencies that align to the specified role; geographic location; and education, as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.
