Knox Community Hospital company history timeline

1983

That same year, the former Mercy Hospital became the Knox Community Hospital-East, servicing the citizens residing in central Mount Vernon until 1983, at which time the extension offices were consolidated into the Knox Community Hospital complex proper.

1984

The building was bought by KDRP on July 31, 1984, who turned it into a center for the Knox County Health Department, the Department of Human Services, and various other public and private offices.

1987

A rollback petition was circulated, and a rollback election was held on January 17, 1987.

The doors re-opened on September 1, 1987.

1990

Administrator Stephen Kuehler, came to the District in 1990 with a vision of expanding healthcare services in Knox County.

1992

The Knox County Health Department was created as a result of a citizen referendum in November 1992.

The Knox County Board of Health held its inaugural meeting on December 2, 1992 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

1993

Greg Chance was hired as the first Public Health Administrator for the Department on April 3, 1993.

1994

In late 1994, the Board of Health recognized that the Department had outgrown its office space located at Veterans Drive in Galesburg.

1996

The building was bought by KDRP on July 31, 1984, who turned it into a center for the Knox County Health Department, the Department of Human Services, and various other public and private offices. It was finally sold to the Knox County Commissioners in 1996, and has served as offices for the Commissioners, Treasurer, Auditor, Board of Elections, Parks Department, and other county offices since that time.

In 1996, a Cardiac Rehabilitation program was introduced in the area previously occupied by the surgical suite.

2000

The Department moved into the new facility located at 1361 West Fremont Street, Galesburg on May 15, 2000.

2005

Physical Therapy was added in 2005 in an out-patient, home health, inpatient, and swing-bed basis.

2009

2009 proved to be an exceptional time of growth with the purchase of a durable medical equipment company, Seymour Medical Supply.

2012

In November of 2012, the Knox County Board of Health celebrated twenty years of service to the Knox County community.

KCHD rescued Munday Nursing Center in December 2012.

2016

The new Munday Clinic was built in . The new Knox City Clinic and addition of Knox County Pharmacy & Supply were completed in 2016.
