Koch Separation Solutions originated in 1963 as a privately held company known as Abcor, Inc.
1963: Introduced first spirally wound membrane.
1968: Developed the first multi-leaf spiral-wound element.
Eco-Tec, a company built on the ground-breaking technology of Recoflo®, was founded in 1970.
1970: World’s first commercial UF system for generating whey protein concentrate.
1974: First tubular MBR system featuring Abcor’s FEG 1” tubular membrane.
In 1975, Romicon, Inc. was founded as a joint venture between Amicon Corporation and the Rohm & Haas Company.
1975: Introduced first industrial-size hollow fiber capillary membrane for ultrafiltration.
1975: Commercialized the first composite membrane by interfacial polycondensation.
1976: Introduced the APU® ion exchange-based acid purification unit for metal finishing processes.
In 1977, Koch Engineering Company purchased the remaining shares of ABCOR®, Inc., making it a wholly owned subsidiary of Koch Industries.
1980: First spiral UF membrane tailored for whey and milk processing.
In 1981, the company became formally known as Koch Membrane Systems.
Since 1982, RELCO has been providing cheese and dairy plants with safe and innovative process technologies.
1982: USDA approval obtained for KMS sanitary spiral, anti-telescope devices, interconnectors, and seals for UF spiral elements.
1982: Launched the Stoelting 40 lb automated block former for the cheese industry
1983: Introduced the wide diameter hollow fiber membrane for citrus upgrading systems
1985: SUPER-COR® tubular membrane introduced as first membrane for juice clarification.

1986: Pioneered the use of microfiltration for wine filtration with the introduction of the original WINEFILTER™ membrane.
1989: SPIRAPAK™ introduced as the first spiral ultrafiltration membrane to treat electrocoat paint.
Romicon was acquired from Rohm & Haas by Koch Membrane Systems in 1991.
1993: First flat sheet and tubular nanofiltration membranes with excellent stability in wide pH range and high temperature
1995: First industrial size nanofiltration spiral wound element compatible with organic solvents.
1995: Introduced an improved CIP-able baghouse for spray dry applications
MPW’s technology was acquired by Koch Membrane Systems in 1996.
Koch Membrane Systems acquired Fluid Systems Corporation in 1998.
1998: Launched the AmiPur® IX systems for removal of heat stable salts from amine streams.
Formed as a startup at RWTH Aachen University in 2001, Puron AG developed a revolutionary MBR technology.
2002: Introduced the PURON® MBR product featuring a unique reinforced fiber, single-header configuration, and central-aeration.
In 2004, Puron AG was acquired by Koch Membrane Systems shortly after KMS’ then President David Koch was introduced to them at an industry conference in Europe.
2005: L-Tech™ Permeate Drying System introduced for the dairy industry
2008: First BgPur™ H2S removal system for biogas purification.
2013: PURON® MP becomes the first reinforced pressured ultrafiltration product for water treatment.
2015: Released latest generation low-energy PULSION® MBR technology.
Eco-Tec was acquired by Koch Membrane Systems in 2019.
