Kolbe & Kolbe Millwork Co. company history timeline

1946

1946 – Brothers Herb and Ervin Kolbe began working out of their mother's wash house, repairing window frames and building sash, on the family farm in central Wisconsin.

1947

In 1947, they started a long partnership with Andersen windows, and later doors from Morgan, and the full suite of products by Crestline (i.e. windows, cabinets, garage doors, exterior, and interior molding).

1948

1948 – The Kolbe brothers purchased a 2,100 square foot building and relocated to Wausau, WI. They also hired their first employee, brother Walter.

1958

Wausau Metals — (1958-present)

Gordon Aluminum — (1958-present)

1962

They were briefly in talks to purchase the assets of the closed Curtis plant in Wausau in 1962, which they hoped to use to start their own window production.

1967

1967 – Additions were made to the Wausau facility to accommodate expansion into the prehung door market.

1970

In 1970 Kolbe and Kolbe integrated a prehung door company and purchased a small cabinet company.

1978

In 1978 an additional 27,000 square foot building was built to connect the three structures.

1997

1997 – A Kolbe vinyl division is established in Manawa, Wisconsin, to manufacture vinyl windows and doors with the same aesthetics and attention to detail for which Kolbe is known.

2003

2003 – The main Kolbe manufacturing plant had grown to over 1 million square feet by 2003, and covered over 27 acres.

2008

2008 – Kolbe acquires Point Five® Windows and Doors in Fort Collins, Colorado, a manufacturer of custom windows and doors for ultra-luxury homes and light commercial projects.
